New Post - Ops (morphine)
I can't say that I had a choice exactly but when the pump was mentioned they said it'll either be Morphine or Demoral. I HATE morphine! As a recovering meth addict it's also not the smartest choice for me. I prefer the demoral and asked them to note that in my chart. I had the morphine injections when I was in for female problems a cupola years back. That first shot felt like buring gun powder going across the surface of my brain! ( you know how they show a trail of burning gun powder in cartoons? LIKE THAT!)

Rob, I did not have morphine in my pump. I had Dilodud. I am guessing it is just as good as Morphine. It worked great on me and they gave them to me in pillform when I came home.

A riddle a day will keep the Marchers pounds AWAY!

Hey, Rob...
Just popped in for a bit: was a hectic day and am just up for a bit from being in bed.
I had both a basal morphine drip AND a PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesic). The basal drip provided a regular flow of morphine thru an IV, but there was an attachment, and it had what looked like those hand-held buttons that TV game shows have their contestants press: that was the PCA, for whenever I felt I needed a "boost". The nurses were always telling me to hit it, so I guess I wasn't using it very much at all (which is the entire theory behind a PCA - if a patient is in control of their own pain meds, they won't use as much of it and they won't 'freak' thinking it's gonna take forever for the nurst to get back with an injection...keeps 'em calmer).
BUT - as we now know, I had a reaction to the morphine, so neither of these was a 'good thing' for me. It took several hours after they d/c'ed the basal morphine drip for me to start feeling anywhere NEAR normal again. Oddest part is that I'd never had a problem with morphine before...I guess the changes from my WLS had already begun!
