Bowels of Hell!!!

Well, I'm going on 14 days tomarrow and have very little to complain about except my bowels. On day three I starting getting this horrible gas and along with it came the runs. In fact, I couldn't stand up to urinate as I would have sharted in my pants. Well, that seemed to take a break when I came home. I still got pleanty of gas, but at least was able to let it go with the reasonable expectation that I would only be relieved of gas. My BM's were explosive, but not much quanity. Wasn't too worried about that as I was on liquids. Well, then along came the pureed foods, and the gas continued, along with the occasional release, but the BM s came to a halt. The became a once and a while occasion. More like old BM's, just not a lot there. Well, yesterday I didn't have a BM. Today, about mid afternoon I started to expeirence some uncomfortable feelings in my belly. Understand, I have no hunger and eat very little. I am basically living on water and protein shakes. I do try to eat at least one pureed meal a day, and I have not had any problems with any foods so far. Anyway, the feeling got much more noticeable and then I started playing the games in my head like my gut was filling with blood from an unknown leak. I took some meds, and got a bit of relief, but not what I was hoping for. I checked, and sure enough, I had a fever of 100.3. Man, I'll have to call the Dr. tomarrow I thought. But, I grabbed some SF pudding, a protein shake, and my water and headed to my favorite chair. I put in the movie "Bruce Almighty" and proceeded to have my snack, then my protein drink, and then sipping on water until the end of the movie. I got up to but away my stuff, and let the dog out when it hit me. Like Redd Foxx, I thought I was having the big one, but only of the bowels. I rushed to the toilet and only the virtue of God held that thing together as air traveled at a rate large enough to lift my fat(somewhat smaller) ass off the seat. I was hoping I didn't set off the Richter scale as far away as California, but an overwhelming sense of relief hit me after a few minutes. Well, I now feel much better and I'm wondering if any of you have had similar situations?

I can relate! I was convinced I was having labor contractions...when this pain hits me...I have to stop, breath, and wait, until it passes...I was sure I must be constipated so yesterday tried and enima (my sister is an RN) and a suppository..all to no avail. I am dying here...Feel trapped at home b/c I dont know 'when its going to hit me' and I look like an idiot when I have to stop and breath... So they say this is gas? Oh my gosh..please please come out....I feel like it is the only thing stopping me from really getting back on my feet! It is awful!! I would LOVE to have your experience...I pray for it everytime it happens!! Though I still have some diarrhea weaved in and out of this picture too. Glad I am not alone. Just hope I dont have to wait till day 14. I am at one week today! Thanks for sharing. Kris

Ken let your surgeon know - since he/she does not have you on solid food you can expect that loose stool - just make note of the color. It should be turing from green/black to brown yellow with healing. My surgeon told me to take an imodium after each "bout" with the runs. Imodium is a very small pill and over the counter. Check with your doc and take care not to leave the house w/o toilet paper. I am having real food since I left the hospital but still get diarhea. Try to keep your water intake up as to not get to dehydrated. Yippie Hippie Nancy 3/2/04 272/?/135

If you have any fever at all, you should call your doctor. I had to call last weekend and, as it rose, they finally pulled me into the emergency from for a CT-Scan. There was nothing wrong with my surgery but I did have a bladder and early kidney infection. I had had a bout of diarrhea like the one you described. This is not to say that you will have the same diagnosis. It could be just dehydration. I am also not sure if some yoghurt I ate was part of my problem. I am waiting until I'm over this infection to try milk products again and find out if I've become lactose intolerant. The point is: with fever, call your doctor. It is probably not high enough to pull you in yet (or maybe ever) but they should be monitoring it. It is a sign that your body is not liking SOMETHING. So, um, did I make myself clear? Call your doctor right now and don't be shy about it. Gano

Hmm...maybe THAT was the violent wall shaking that was going on while I was watching TV...thought a tanker blew up or something. Thanks for clearing that up for me. So...this PROVES that there truly IS a place known as "The Bowels of Hell"...it's in your bathroom... Kimmer Queen of the Niners, Instigator to All Marchers, High Priestess of Giggles

Glad most of you understood the jist of my post. But thank you to those who showed real concern. Believe me, if I have some real problems I'll call my Dr. I was just making light of something that I think a lot of people experience.
