Found out today that Tricare approved my surgery...on the first try!! I have to be at the hospital by 5:30 Wednesday morning!! Having to be there so early, I assume I'm the first of the day. I'm not nervous at all...getting a little anxious though to get my new life rolling. I've talked with everyone in my family and they all support me in this major step. I guess that's why I don't feel nervous about it. I'm sure I will post again tomorrow night before going to bed...maybe a little nervousness will kick in by then and I'll need people to talk to. I'm new to the area I live in now and don't know anybody. Makes it kind of hard not having friends close by But I know that I can always come here, even though I'm not a "regular" poster, and get the support and help that I need. Thanks to everyone that posts on a regular basis and provides such great information and support! I'm sure I'll be leaning on some of you in the coming weeks LOL Might even get a little whiny

LOL Thanks Joy! And no, Tricare doesn't waste any time at all. I had my first referral in mid January...and no surgery almost 2 months to the day afterwards. I thought it would take much longer after reading everyone else's profiles and messages, but Tricare is really on the ball these days!!

That's great Dawn! Congratulations and welcome to March! This is very encouraging to me! I have Tricare too, and mine goes to insurance tomorrow for surgery on the 31st. Did you have co-morbities? I didn't see any in your profile and your BMI seems low. Are you having Lap or Open? Sorry so many questions, but you know how this is. Nerve wracking! Best of luck and a speedy recovery!!!

Thanks Lee, The only co-morbities I have are GERD and arthritis in my knees. Tricare says in their handbook that if you're at least 100 lbs over ideal weight and have at least one of a handful of medical problems (arthritis being one of them), then you qualify by their standards. I didn't even know my surgeon's office had sent the paperwork in last week. I just called to check on things and they offered me a surgery date and said Tricare had requested information and they supplied it and there would be no problems. The surgeon's office called me today and said they had the authorization numbers and everything in their hands. I almost fell out of my chair at work LOL I had read somewhere on here in the past few days that Tricare was no longer approving LAP. That's not true....at least not as of right now. Mine is LAP RNY and they approved it with no problem. Hope your experience with Tricare goes smoothly as well!!
