Down a total of 13 lbs from my pre-op in the hospital. Not bad for 7 days, huh? My whole experience was uneventful. My surgery was at 2:30 on Tuesday the 9th and I was back in my hotel room by 7:30pm on Thursday the 11th. My doc says I am her new "Star" patient!! Walk, Walk, Walking is the key to a speedy recovery Speaking of walking... time for me to go! Karla -13

Sure you can. First of all my Dr. only requires 10mins a day for the 1st week and 20mins a day for the 2nd week. So walk out your door for five mins and turn around. As you lose you will feel better and those knees will not be as much of a problem. Who knows you may end up running! LaDonna -20lbs

Most definitely! The point is being "upright" and breathing. No marathons at first ;) At Mercy, they also used a special large walker thing that you can lean on for support. Karla

First, talk to your doctor. With that disclaimer in place, I have to do pool exercise and stationery biking (upright, not recumbant as I have disc problems as well) rather than walk much. I'm two weeks post op and got cleared by the surgeon on Monday to resume these at a light level. I was surprised by the pool clearance, as I had heard 1 month. I have to admit I'm going to wait an extra week on the pool thing though my incisions seem healed (Lap RNY). One of them looks just a little funky and I want to be absolutely sure. I did 10 minutes on the bike yesterday, which is about 1 mile of walking, and took it really easy doing it. The early walking is just getting moving down the hospital corridor or around the block, that kind of thing. After that, you might want to seek out someting low impact.
