Hello you great books of knowledge, I have 5 days to go and some questions keep arising....Do I get a choice of either staples or glue? I hear glue is a better choice--What have you all had and what are your opinions? Melissa****ultimate giggler****

I had sutures that disolve. Looked like fishing line. They take longer to put in than staples, so a lot of docs don't use them, but I sure healed up nicely. I think you are into the plastic surgery zone with glue. I don't know anyone who has had that. I suspect each doc has their own favorite and you don't get much choice in the matter. (I am assuming you are talking about open surgery?) Joy

Hi Melissa, I had glue with my lap RNY procedure. It's awesome. But I think this will be the surgeon's call. It may depend on your size, where your weight is localized, etc. If you have a very round tummy, maybe the glue wouldn't work well. I'm not actually sure. I hate staples! I had them with my open gallbladder surgery a few years ago and they made it difficult to do anything. Eve

According to my surgeon, he uses both. So I guess it really depends. He uses glue as an addition around the lines as added protection against leakage.

Are you referring to your incision or your pouch?? It's the surgeon's choice and you should have found out by now seeing that surgery is so close.. A quick call to the office should clear it all up.... Kathy
