Glitches Anew....

I had my blood work done on the 11th and on Monday I got a call from my docs office. They said I had an elevated white count and that there was bacteria in my urine. They wanted me to repeat the tests. Off I went to my PCP's office with 2 minutes to spare before they all went home. They took the blood and the urine and they went to the lab the next morning. I had to wait until Wednesday at the earliest. On Wednesday morning I had called the office three times by 10 am. The blood was done and the white count was slightly elevated, I guess it's supposed to be like 1100 and it's around 1400. Then the bacteria thing wasn't done yesterday by closing and my doc is closed on Fridays. He supposedly signed off for me to have surgery though contingent upon the test results. I wasn't supposed to have a catheter. Now I will but here's the fun part. The surgeons office called in a perscription for an antibiotic that I take twice a day all weekend. I do the bowel prep and show up at the hospital on Monday for surgery. At that point (as I understand it) a catheter will be put in for an 'ultra clean catch specimen' which they will then test. IF the bacteria is still present there goes my surgery. I will have gotten literally minutes or hours from surgery for it all to end. I am on pins and needles and haven't had one symptom of bladder infection. I have this 'problem' when I get close to my period. It's been 'normal' for me since I started my period. I was severely and repeatedly molested when I was very small and it kinda messed things up 'down there'. My urethra is ALWAYS inflamed. It ALWAYS gets worse near my period. The only medication I have found to help has asprin in it and I can't have it this close to surgery. I am and always will be eternally grateful that my surgeon is being so careful. I'm so very stressed right now anyway and then to prolong it until I'm in the hospital waiting for surgery.... that just tightens the screws! I'm battling PMS in a big way right now and my poor hubby doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know if he'll be dealing with a ticked off Medusa, a purring loving kitten, or a bawling mess. He finally gave up and has been out mowing the lawn! This sucks and I just needed to vent and knew ya'll'd listen. Love and Hugs, Gayle Queen of Yarn Balls

God bless you, Gayle! You've been through a lot in your life. You should take comfort in knowing that you *will* have your surgery -- maybe not Monday, if your wbc is elevated, but you *will* have it. My prayers are with you. Hugs, -Marcie

I'm so sorry! I don't wanna lose my surgery sister! Everything WILL clear up and you WILL have surgery on the 22nd. Because we have 22 people having surgery on the 22nd, cosmic numbers don't lie! But seriously, even if you don't, it's best to be safe with your health - just make sure they schedule the next one 2 weeks after your period. Linda - TRW

Yeah, I guess if I'm going to have problems it's best that I have them BEFORE the surgery huh? It is agonizing, true, but the thing I hate is having to go through the wonderful bowel prep and then WHAT IF? Gayle Queen of Yarn Balls

I'm so sorry that it seems so complicated now. As if you really needed something else to worry about!! Since they have put you on the antibiotics, you will undoubtedly be clear on Monday. It won't hurt to take one double dose today to shock the bacteria to death! (I have uti's also, and always double the first dose). I will be praying for you, that there will not be any necessary or unnecessary delays! Joy

Well, I'm sorry for you, that's for sure! You will eventually have this surgery but it's just soooooo frustrating to go through these hoops at the last minute. FYI, I had an undetected bladder infection during surgery (or this is what I think). Two days after being discharged I ran a high fever and had to go into the ER and be subjected to a CT-Scan (drank all that crap with just 3 days of new pouch) just in case of leakage. Instead, came up with bladder infection and I got put on a foul antibiotic that has been a real challenge to keep down, as well as a lousy recuperation with lots of fever. I don't know if it helps to hear that, as, believe me, I get the part about wanting to get it over with. But I hope you will be spared the kind of recovery I have had. It has been really awful. I will be hoping that the catheter shows nothing wrong and you can just go forward without a round of antibiotics first. If you *do* have an infection, since you'll probably have an IV, can you ask them to drip a dose of antibiotic into you right there? It speeds the recovery from the infection immensely. Gano

Gayle, I'm a 22nd-er too and we will all have our surgeries together.....it's strange though you talk about PMS and being close to having your monthly...I started mine today and wondered if we will all have them at the same time. Poor doctors! LOL I was given amoxicillian yesterday to take 3 times a day for the weekend because I had some coughing on Thursday and some sinus crap going on. Good luck and hopefully you will be just fine and ready to go on monday. Kellie the Bar Keep Monday is the day!

Gayle I am sorry you are going thru this worry....the good thing is most antibiotics work pretty quickly,.. and your Dr. must feel pretty confident you will be ok, or he would have rescheduled outright....he wouldn't mess up his surgery schedule.....I am sending you good wishes and healing vibes I am so sorry you have had to deal with molestation issues...I can relate and I will pray for good things to happen on the 22nd, you deserve it!!
