My idea about drinking the protein drink

I just wondered if anyone else had done this. When I had my babies, I bottle fed them. I used to make up the days batch of formula in the morning and then divide it between 8 bottles and they should all be gone by the next day. (very different I know from some of you young mothers nowadays) Well that is what I am going to do with my protein drink. I am going to use my skim milk and make up the days quota measured very accurately with a baby bottle I bought and label them and store it in canning jars in the refrigerator and see if I can make quota each day. What do you think?

Dear Sally: I think that's a GREAT idea!!! I already do that with my SF Jello and SF Jello pudding, and it's the ONLY way that works, with no problem. I tried doing what you suggest, but I find that if I drink too much milk/protein, I get diarrhea, almost like dumping. When I use the blender to make any one of a number of smoothies, I have to let the concoction sit for a few hours, or until all the bubbles are out, or else I find that I involuntarily BURP REAL LOUD, and there is nothing I can do about it . Still, that's better than the rapid dumping. Hey, whatever works for you is a good thing. Just make sure that the milk you use is super fresh, as I am always afraid of it spoiling in the 'fridge, especially when it's mixed with something else already. Let me know how it works out for you. I may just give it another try! Rita

Sally That's exactly what I do. I make the required grams of protein that I should have for the day every morning. When I feel like it during the day I take a sip. When that's gone I know I have gotten the correct grams of protien for the day, no wondering if I've gotten in my protein. Bottle empty Enough in.

I'd already pre-made jello, pudding and mashed potatoes in 1/2 cup Glad disposable containers before I went in to the hospital. I have to make my 'jello' with non-sweetened KoolAid, Splenda and Knox unflavored gelatin since I have an aspartame intolerance, and I KNEW I wouldn't feel like it post-op. I made 40 "jello" cups originally, still have some left (which, BTW, I threw in a couple of scoops of Beneprotein while I made 'em, so each cup of "jello" gives me 6 g of protein...EASY pickings!). I'd been using sippy-cups for my protein 'shake', but couldn't throw 'em under the Hamilton-Beach soda-jerk type malt blender I have 'cuz it'd slurp up over the side of the cup. I bought some terrific nearly-unbreakable sport cups with 'sippy cup' type tops on them (that fold down), and each holds 12 oz. I've been using THAT for the shakes - it allows for the stirring without any slurping. I make up 2 each nite, let 'em sit in the refrigerator, have pre-made shakes that render 31 g. protein each, and all I do is pull 'em out of the 'fridge, throw 'em under the blender, and they're 'fresh' again. Works like a charm. Kimmer Queen of the Niners, Instigator to All Marchers, High Priestess of Giggles

Yes, I have both sippy cups and sports cups with spouts too that I can use. I have just realized that I hate sugar free jello or any jello I guess...I have absolutely no desire for it unless it has yougurt or skim milk on it...so I guess I will have to try that. I have to ask about mashed potatoes...that sounds yummy and I also bought some baby cereal...another throw back to my Momma days...used to love it. One for the baby, and one for Mommy....one for the baby and one for Mommy...and it is nice and mild.

Sally that sounds like a great idea to me, I also did the bottle thing with my kids...oh the good old days huh? I was happy to read that you are doing good, I am close to you in age..I am a little older, so you have been my "hero" to follow. I have my surgery on the 31st, so I will be eager to follow in your footsteps I was wondering how the best way to get the protien in, and you sound like a good plan! Trish

Well thank YOU....I had no idea you were an oldie but goodie too. Have you checked out our over 50 forum? It is a very nice place to ask questions that only our generation really understand.

My nutricianist said that some of the powdered protein drinks start to lose their potency if made too far ahead. I'm going the easy way right now and using the pre-mixed, canned protein drink - it supposedly is made a certain way that it does not loose it's potency. mgm & IDI Bitty - born 3 days ago

I am talking about 1 day at a time...and only what I think I can drink, so it should be ok.

That is a great idea. I seperate my refried beans and all so I dont have to measure all the time. The protein shakes I take you cannot pre-mix though. They are not good after so long. I would check before mixing them. LaDonna -22 My ette-->Teri
