NO BM IN A WEEK
HELLO EVERYONE;
TODAY MAKES 1 WEEK POSTOP, ON THE DAY BEFORE MY SURGERY, I HAD TO BRINK A BOWEL PREP, WHICH CAUSED ME TO HAVE MULTIPLE BMS, BUT SINCE SURGERY I HAVE NOT HAD 1. I'M PASSING GAS BUT NOTHING ELSE. COULD THIS BE DUE TO I'M ONLY ON LIQUIDS FOR 2 WEEKS OR SHOULD I CALL MY DOCTOR. IF ANYONE ELSE IS BATTLING THE "CANT GO'S" PLEASE LET ME KNOW

Dear Regina:
Gas is normal for the first week, and runny stools usually follow. Beware the fart: they can be real
or Memorex, IF you know what I mean. Whenever you feel the need to "pass gas", RUN,
don't walk, to the bathroom in case that it's more than gas. As you increase your protein intake, the BM's will also increase in volume and mass. I remember that I sang a happy song to myself in the bathroom the first time I had a REAL BM, post-op! Funny the things that make you happy after surgery!!! If you are really concerned, check with your doctor. Mine recommended baby food prunes/plums, or unsweetened applesauce in the event I needed some help. I've discovered that Crystal Light does it for me, especially the pink and reg. lemonade. Best of luck, and let us know how you're doing!

You might try a SMALL (child's) dose of milk of magnesia just to make it easier to get started. You don't want things to back up or to get too uncomfortable. Be prepared though, my bowels are still confused. I alternate between several days of constipation and several days of diarreah. Good luck!

Hi, I had the same problem up until yesterday. And I also did the bowel prep the night brefore surgery. I called my surgeon thursayd and he said to take milk of magnesia. Well, I did and it worked wonders! In 2 hours I felt so much better. I'll warn ya, its gross as hell, but it worked! CVS has the sugar free version. And BTW, I'm on liquids only too. You still gotta go no matter what, especially if you have that baruim in you.
Good Luck!

Hi Regina. I am 2 weeks post-op (as of tomorrow). I had a supository in the hospital, which caused a BM. I didn't go again for 7 days. My surgeon advised me that if this happened, I should take oral Dulcolax, which I did on the 7th day. All I can say is stay close to the bathroom! Since, the I've had a small BM every day, without needing anything to help the process. Remember, you're hardly taking anything in so there's not much to move out! Call your doctor and ask about the Ducolax -- don't do it until you talk to him first! I'm only saying it worked for me. Best, Maureen
