Leak test

I did NOT have to have any leak test. Are there other post ops who didn't?

Nope, I had my leak test the day after surgery. Couldn't have anything but ice chips 'til after the leak test. I walked INTO it on my own, stood there unassisted, drank the BIOLOGICAL GERM WARFARE down and kept it down , and that was when I fell in love with Earl...the first time I actually got to SEE my ornery, mouthy little pouch!! My incredibly sick roommate had that test plus a score of others and if anyone should have sprung a leak, it was her...but they were all good. I left her there when I left so I will have to find out what was wrong if I see her again...we have the same surgeon and should go to the same support meetings. Let me tell you it was so hard on me though....wish I had had a nice private room.

My surgeon does a leak test before he closes. That way if there is a problem, he can catch it there and doesn't need to open you up again. I was really glad I didn't have to go through that - don't know if I could have drunk that stuff. mgm & IDI Bitty - born 3 days ago

I was tested once while still in OR, then again with Barium two days after and then with a "barium burger". So I was tested three times before I left the hospital. Sally did your surgeon tell you you were not tested for a leak? It is almost standard (I thought) but I have been wrong a lot lately!

No, she didn't say--and I will ask her. I know I didn't have one where I had to do anything, but I wasn't allowed anything at all the day of surgery...only ice chips and a water the second day.

My surgeon did a leak test before closing then one again the day after surgery. But, unlike Kimmer, I couldn't even have ice chips until after the 2nd leak test was passed. Only thing I got were these lovely little green sponge swabs to moisten my mouth and lips with.
