Damn Sweet P is a dumper!
I think the initial P is for Pooper instead of Pouch!
I didn't recognize the signs at first, since I am new at this, but I have dumped on:
chocolate pudding at the hospital made for bariatric patients
tylenol liquid
La Creme Yogurt (should have waited on that...too much sugar)
Either rice baby cereal with skim milk or sugar free applesauce with Splenda or both!
My heart races and I have diarrhea,
So far the foods that agree are:
Iss Whey powder in skim milk
cottage cheese
plain yogurt
baby food applesauce
ice chips
water
sugar free jello/plain yougurt combo
I need MILD, BLAND, DUMP-LESS FOOD SUGGESTIONS!
HAHA! Doesn't it figure? What does your nutritionist say you can use? (Maybe it's time to go back to basics?) It's just amazing to me what other doctors allow their patients to eat...especially right out of the hospital! I guess that's one of the few areas where mine is 'strict'.
First off, try Dannon's "Carb Control" yogurt (comes four 4-oz containers to a pack), or Blue Bunny's "Lite 85" or "Carb Freedom". They all use Splenda, no sugar. They're also very light, more like a fluffy yogurt or pudding.
Chocolate - this is pretty much a no-no on my dietary allotments for quite a while. I mean, no chocolate in any way, shape or form. I DID have an Atkins Endulge fudgesicle the other nite, but that wasn't on my allowed list, I just tried it 'cuz it was 'there' in my freezer (Bad Kimmer. Bad, bad Kimmer.). But chocolate in any form comes with its own evils just because it's CHOCOLATE and the properties that go with cocoa.
Tylenol Liquid: I've read in other posts that this has a very high sugar content. Check it out.
I haven't even gotten past the 'full fluids' stage yet since I'm only 11 days out. But I'm still taking it very slow with everything...like, you could drink my 'mashed potatoes' with a straw (they're that runny), etc. (that is, if you could USE a straw!). I'm not going to push for 'real food' anytime soon, my GI system is still adapting to THIS phase in its new life. I'm alright with where I'm at for a while if need be: I don't want to mess up Earl. My surgeon called again yesterday just to check in and see how I'm doing (he calls his patients personally...what a guy!). He's totally pleased with my progress. Said to take it how I feel, and not to ru**** I'm not. Real food will be here forever soon enough: I'm not gonna ruin anything now.
Anyway, recheck your sugar contents on everything. ALSO - when you're reading the nutritional content, check at the top of the listing for the QUANTITY it's referring to: e.g. some juices will have, oh, say, 11 g of sugar. But when you read the QUANTITY, that's per FOUR ounces, not eight as you'd assume. Therefore, your total sugars per 8 ounces would be 22 g....MORE than enough to cause you to dump. Check the quantity the sugars are based on...very interesting when ya start reading 'em! Good luck!

I knew you would have some good answers...part of it is my fault. I really don't like the packets of food the surgeon's office wants me to use...so I thought I would kind of stay with what I had in the hospital...but that chocolate pudding was a big no no. My surgeon's office calls us too, and when I told her that she was a little upset, because SHE had made it and brought it to the hospital for the patients...
but I mentioned that my roomie was real sick with vomiting and I remember she vomited on the pudding too.
I am giving up all pain killers for now to get that tylenol out of my system:
Here are my instructions:Clear & pureed bariatric diet. Restart the raspberry tea, the fruit drink, the broth and the sugar free jello that they provided...a special brand with whey in it for protein. Restart the protein drinks. tylenol for pain. avoid sugar, sweeteners, chocolate and other sweets. no white foods (cereal, bread, pasta, potatoes, crackers, chips, cream soups, white rice****il a later stage.I can also have SF popsicles and SF jello and pudding. But I am afraid Splenda might be a culprit so trying to work that out.
I was told under the "pureed" category I could take applesauce, pureed pears, baby foods, egg white only steamed, braised or in omelet in the 2nd week, cottage cheese, plain yougurt. I also bough some Dannon Light N Fit, with 8g sugar (the 5th ingredient) and 4g protein, that should be ok don't you think? It has aspartame which will give me a chance to compare artificial sweeteners.
Right now, I don't want anything bu****er and cottage cheese and broth...3 things I am sure of. It is a real bad feeling to dump. Also I am having some across the neck and shoulder pain, that heat feels good on.
Sally,
Every surgeon is different, of course, and mine has us start a full protein diet in week two. That lasts for a month. What that means is nothing but eggs, cottage cheese, seafood, cheese, poultry. One of the first foods that I could eat was an egg with low-fat cheese. No sugar, no dumping and it was filling.
Even Splenda will make you dump if you are prone to dumping so take it easy on Splenda, but it's a wonderful alternative. Is it possible that you are also lactose intolerant?
