Answer to your questions
No, I had it lap, my marvelous surgeon didn't go into detail about how he did it, just that he had to do it. That will be a question when I meet him for my first post-op.
I do know though that he doesn't use any scrub nurses working next to him when he does a procedure, there is alway 3 other doctors in there with him acting as his aides. A nurse told me that.
Another thing about him is pre-op I did not have to do any protein shakes, or any special diets, and I had no bowl prep, he doesn't want us to lose electolites or get dehydrated. Also for lunch today before I came home, I had mashed potatoes with gravy, pureed chicken, beets, all pureed of course and in very small quantity, plus some other stuff on my tray that I could not eat, as I was too full. He won't discharge us until we can tolerate pureed foods.
Pretty amasing, isn't it. He is a marvelous sergeon, I told him I had heard he was the best doctor on this planet, he is modest, he got a little embarrassed.
