Exercise - What do you do?

My surgery was March 1. The only exercise I have done so far is walking and mowing the yard. What types of exercise do you do? When can I start lifting arm weights for my "wings"? Do I have to wait 6 weeks post op or is that just for anything that involves my tummy?

Regarding what you can do, your doctor is the best source. I had laparscopic (NOT open) RNY on March 2. One week ago, he told me I could go back to the gym but we discussed only the stationery bike. He cleared me to go back to the pool (where I am doing stretching and light cardio, i.e., 10 min. and working up past that). I was very surprised he would clear me for this but I am healing fast (i.e. my incisions have been close for some time). So I wouldn't generalize from that. I plan to give it one more week and then call him re the weights. I've had a couple of complications and am not feeling all that great, so will probably be slower than someone who had the ideal situation.

I had open and my doc said no ab exercises. He gave me "if it hurts don't do it" as a guideline. I cant see where arm exercises would hurt as long as you don't involve your abs. Just my opinion... Joy
