I went in Tuesday and came home this afternoon. I had complications. My surgery was 3 and 1/2 hours. I have never felt this like before. I cant keep anything down. When does it start to get better? Why did I do this? All this to be skinny?I am not sure if I would do this again.

Sharon, what are your complications? Why can't you keep anything down? You are still very new post-op; it's hell the 1st week but I PROMISE it gets better. God bless, Maureen

I have the G tube too and it does make sleeping difficult the first week. But I promise it gets better. By the second week I could start sleeping on my side. Now I sleep on my stomach and it does not bother me at all. The skin around my G tube was very irritated the first week, but once I could stand to wear a bra, I tucked the tube up in it and the skin below it got to breathe and healed. I have to have mine for a month--one more week. But it has dropped from a major irritation to a minor annoyance at this point. It also helps that as you lose weight the collar of it is further from your skin. I hope you don't have to keep yours for a month! Be sure to keep the skin clean and as dry as possible and turn the collar a bit each day. Hang in there! Joy -22 lbs / 26 days

Sharon, I think it is a good sign that you feel well enough to be on line! I'm eight days ahead of you and I promise that it DOES get better! I'd imagine we all have those moments we ask ourselves, "WHAT HAVE I DONE?" Keep on reading these message boards, there is SO much encouragement here. If you start reading something negative - STOP and go on to another post! Check with your doctor about anti-nausea suppositories. I'll pray that God will bring comfort to you, soon!

Sharon - everyone already said it but I'll say it again: It does get better. But I would urge you to keep in close contact with your doctor regarding the fever. That you need to keep in check, and if you need more pain meds, you should ask for them. And please don't say the only reason you had this surgery was to be skinny. I just read your profile and you have so many other reasons to want to do this. I think at least for me, skinny is a factor, but it's the last one in all the involved reasons. I think if just being skinny was the only reason, a majority of us wouldn't be having the surgery at all. Heck, if I could have lived my life doing all I wanted to do and not suffering physically from the effects of obesity, I would think twice about it also. But obesity does affect every facet of your life....from pain/comfort, diabetes, heart problems, arthritis, knee and joint problems, inability to run and play to being there for family as you near retirement age. I don't want to die young. Plain and simple. I want to live to be 70 or 80 or more. At this rate, obesity would take me before I was 60. I couldn't hack that knowing that my son would be starting his life as an adult without me being able to see all his milestones! So try to concentrate on that rather than the focus of doing this to be "skinny." Skinny implies much more than vanity. It's beyond that for most of us, and I feel for you too... Dina
