very disappointed
If you're doing the right things, then this is on track for you. As you step up your exercise, it will keep going. After all, we can't start off with twenty minutes tough cardio right out of surgery! If you're what they call a "lightweight" here -- I'm one -- which means about 100 lbs give or take twenty overweight, then this is the rate you get. Of course, I include the usual disclaimers about talking with your doctor if really worried.
You should be eating 3 small meals per day -- spreading out your food or snacking will destroy your weight loss utterly, so avoid both. You also should not drink with meals or for one hour after because it washes food out of your pouch and you do not get the protein.
Assuming you are doing the above, I think that activity is more your key, since you are ingesting the right amounts. And there, you have to work up depending on your prior level of activity, how you recovery is going and so on. I've had two tough complications so I am NOWHERE where I wanted to be with exercise, more like the first week out of the hospital, oh well. I'm trying to be nice to myself about it and just dig in and get going.
I, too, was bumed when I had lost 12 lbs. post op at my first appointment. But my doctor said it was a good loss for my situation, so there ya go.
Hi Marcy,
I am 16 days out and have lost only 15lbs. I only get in about 45 grams of protein a day and only about 40-45 oz of fluids a day...My surgeon says my weightloss is good and I should be happy. I admit, I wasn't very happy when I seen him on Thursday, I was really upset that I didn't lose more. I feel better now and I know that 15 lbs is excellent. I would have NEVER been able to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks before. Be proud of yourself, you are doing great! Things will get better. Don't weigh so much. Try weighing only once a week. Seeing 5-10 pounds gone each week feels so much better than seeing 1 or 2 pounds gone each day.

You need to lighten up on yourself. Think about what you wrote...I am 13 days out and only lost 12 1/2 pounds. Thats 1 lb a day. Would you ever have been able to lose 13 lbs in 13 days prior to WLS? Heck no. I am 16 days post op (now at 18 lbs) and I went through the exact same thing you did around 10 days out (down 10 lbs****il I realized what I had actually done. I also had other crazy thoughts like I was eating to much (hardly anything) and would stretch my pouch. As I troll through a lot of posts on the main message board I found a lot of good advice (have to pick and choose 'cause there is a lot of fluff out there too
) the main point being don't compare yourself to any one else...everyone is different. Try not to weigh yourself every day (I was weighing myself everytime I walked by the scale!) ...your weight will fluctuate every day. The weight will come off. Also keep in mind that there is no way that you could be eating as much food as you did pre-op to maintain your current weight so you physically have to lose.
Keep the faith, stick to the plan, drink your water...you will lose the weight.
