Youre lucky you can get it all in. Hell Im still pre-op and cant drink that much ya damn fish. I just wanted to put out that warning that it does happen. A few years ago a runner in one of the big marathons passed out and died from water poisoning. She drank too much before the race and yanno how they pass out those little cups.. I guess drinking those put her over the edge. Scary stuff. To think, of all things, water, yanno?!

I was told 3-4 oz per hour as a minimum. But you are right about not eating/drinking at the same time. Try to wait at least 1/2 hour after eating before drinking and gradually stretch that wait out to 1 1/2 hour wait as you are able to drink more. The fluids pass through the pouch pretty fast, so if you are comfortable drinking a bit more, it will not matter. I was terribly thirsty for about 10 days postop, but that got better too. Sounds like you are doing well. Joy

Amy, I too am very very thirsty!! I attribute my thirstiness to not being able to have anything to drink after I got out of surgery until the next morning after my leak test. I told the nurses that I felt like Scarlett O'Hara when she said "As God as my witness, I will never be hungry again" I just said "As God as my witness, I will never never be thirsty again" So glad to have plenty of water around!!

Hello Ronda, wow you should feel lucky, i had my surgery on wednesday morning at 10:30 am and i was not aloud to drink anything till my test on saturday around noon. After that i thought 2 oz's a hour was going to be heaven hahaha boy was i wrong.

Do you think maybe they possibly meant at LEAST 2 oz every hour instead of limited to? It would seem that would make more sense to me. Let us know what you find out - I'm really curious! Dina

I read that it was 2-3 oz every 10 minutes. Not any sooner. I was the same as you I was told in the hospital 2 oz every hour. The nurses were dead wrong!!! I threw away the little medicine 2 oz cups and started sipping myself. I just bought these awesome teas called honest tea. Its all organic and the sugar they use is from pure cane and no high fructose its some are only 4 grams a bottle others are 5 grams a half bottle I finished off a bottle and felt great. No dumping whatsoever and boy did they quench my thrist!!! Best of luck to you and drink up because I ended up in the hospital a week out from dehydration. The symptoms of dehydration are a feeling of a big time urinary tract infection turned out they tested me and no urinary tract infection it was dehydration they told me the symptoms are the same and can be very dangerous so be sure to drink that liquid Elizabeth M 1 month out 28 lbs gone!

Hi Amy and welcome. I had surgery on the 23rd. I have been counting my liquid "food" in my 64oz of fluid a day also. So with water, broth, soup, jello, etc I count all of that as my fluid also. Good Luck.... {{{HUGS}}} Cindy
