Incision Question

Hello all. I wanted to ask other Marchers about their incision. I had surgery on the 23rd and the surgeron put drain tubes in that were removed before I left the hospital. Most of my incision is closed up and scabed except for the top 3 inches or so. It is still kind of open and pink with a little bit of drainage. There is no infection or anything but it's ugly and I don't like it. How long until it heals up? I don't know what it should look like at this point. Thanks all and I'm sending a prayer for Rob. I'm so glad his fever is down... {{{HUGS}}} Cindy

My whole incision is only 3.5 inches long and was glued with no staples or stitches and I had no drains. It has scabbed and healed nicely except right at the very very top also...a little reddish and oozed a tiny bit some clear fluid...I have been putting on triple antibiotic ointment on it....if it wasn't for that, my scar is very skinny and nice.

Boy Cindy - wish I could help but mine never reopened. Probably because I ended up having my staples in for almost 3 weeks (not out of choice though). What does your surgeon say? Can they put a steri strip on it or a butterfly bandage? Dina

Hey Cynthia- Once I had my staples removed they had put tape across my belly. There was still an opening at the bottom of my incision about 1/2" or so....I used one of my daughters band-aids and put it on the incision to cover it w/the tape part only and It slowly closed up after a few days. To help it along I closed the incision before I put the band-aid on it, but it closed w/no problems.....no infections. Hope this helps, Kristina

I had the same thing happen. My incision opened up in the middle, and boy, was I grossed out. It still has a tiny bit of gunk oozing out of it, but is actually starting to get a scab. My doc said dont put anything on it, but keep it clean. Im to leave it open to the air when at home and covered when out and about. I know my scar will be wider there, but hopefully it will not be an issue once I get a tummy tuck down the road. If it is, I just look at it as a battle scar. A hard earned battle scar. -Donna

I have a 7 1/2 in*****ision, and about 2 inches of it keeps goozing and opening - it will scab over, the scab will fall off, and then it will gooze like crazy and stick to my shirt. My doctor said just to treat it like I would a skinned knee - keep it clean and dry, and it will heal. Its been almost 6 weeks, I wi**** would HEAL already!! -Sherrie
