First check up after surgery
Hi all,
I just got back from the Dr's after my 2-week check up and have lost 13.5lb in 10 days. When I asked how much to expect to lose on average he said I should be losing about 1/2 lb a day for the first 6 months, or 3 1/2 lb a week. That seems kind of low for having had such a drastic surgery to lose weight. I'snt that the same weight you should expect to lose on a regular diet, or were my expectations a little high?
Other than that things went well. I got my drain pulled, and was moved to pureed foods for the next 2-weeks.
He also told me nothing but swiming and walking for the next 2-months in the way of excercise. And no cruches or sit ups for 2-years. I thought that was strange, but he said that the stomach will heal, and knit it self together but it takes a long while. So that is my up date, thanks for listening.

3.5 lbs is quite a bit more than you should be expected to lose on a normal diet. Most people don't lose more than 2 lbs a week on a regular diet. Also though he was probably averaging it out for you so you wouldn't get upset over the inevitible stalls.
As for the crunches, I would thing they'd be hard on the stomach, but 2 years sounds like a long time for that. Not that I would be doing them anyway though!
I am just thankful we have a swimming pool! Guess who's going to be living in it this summer?

Hi Leslie,
My doctor told me that I could expect to lose 15 pounds per month for at least the first 3 months. I was kind of depressed to hear that, figuring I could lose 10 to 12 pounds / month on a regular diet, but I guess the difference here is that when this is lost it is LOST not to return, so even if it is slower than I want it to be, it will still be worth it in the end.
Good luck with your journey and recovery!
Hugs,
