My surgery was March 24th. I had open w/ 5 hernia repairs. I am scheduled to be off for 6 weeks. I was told at my last appointment that they will not rush me back to work, they will wait until I feel comfortable. The way I feel now I don't think I will ever be ready. I still feel very weak and tired. Forcing myself to eat and drink. Not sure how to get my protien when I barely get in 16 oz of fluid a day. Even water taste horrid to me and that is all I ever used to drink, at least 5-6 bottles a day and I loved it. Now...I just don't know Debbie The Shy One Guilty of Lurking

I had open rny and was back to work in a week and a half. I also did not have any ocmplications at all, have not been sick once, no infetion, n real pain or anything. I may be one of the few with no complictions so far. TAke as much time off as needed. Each person is different and if you are not ready to go back, then there is no need to ru**** You need to get better first.

I had Lap RNY and was out of work for 3 weeks. I had started soft foods and felt good. When I went for my 1st week checkup I asked the Dr if I felt like I needed more time off could I get it and he said no cause he didnt want me sitting around. So that may be his reasoning for you. I would let him know if you honestly cant go back. No need to make you feel worse. Put your foot down with him. Good luck and I hope you get feeling better. LaDonna -40

I had OPEN surgery and am scheduled to return to work 6 weeks after surgery. Actually, I had thought I would be able to return in 3-4, but the surgeon felt that 6 was more appropriate. Now that I'm 3.5 weeks post, I'm glad he did because there's no way that I could even sit at my desk for 1/2 days. Tammy

I had open RNY and my surgeon said I could go back anywhere from 10days to 6 weeks....haha so I told my work that I'd be back in 7weeks!! Everyone was fine with it....well I am actually wanting to go back to work now...the funds have run dry.Thank god I am only 20, and my parents are feeling generous....or else I'd be at work right now!!! If I were you though I would just talk to your surgeon and tell him/her you need more time!! Good Luck and God Bless!! w/love Annie
