My Story
Wow. I thought I was the only one who went to lurking after surgery. I, too, am guilty of dropping in to check on Rob, reading and leaving without posting. I think his situation seems so big and overwhelming, I felt I could add nothing.
Well, here's my story, for the rest of you Marchers who are interested.
I had Lap RNY on 31 Mar (same day as our Caboose), two days later I developed a bleed and had to be opened back up. To prep me for surgery, they pushed 3 units of blood, one of which I had an allergic and near-fatal reaction to. By the time they had me tubed again, I had a severe plumonary edema. Doc didn't find any cause of the bleed, but reinforced all his stitches. I spend the nest say in ICU, then two more in the hospital's nicest "apoplogy suite". My sister flew out from Phoenix when they decided to do the second surgery, and she stayed with me in the hospital until I went home! She was a great help.
My husband has been a rock, and is just wonderful. He was driving back and forther 2 hours each way to the hospital, taking care of kids, and making sure the house was clean when I got home. He also held my hand a lot. What a man!
The first two days at home were pretty bad. I couldn't sleep and kept hallucinating from the pain meds. I was hating life and wishing I had never done it! (Sound familiar)
Now, I have both Lap and Open scars (the Lap hurt worse) and I am on the mend. Feel great, tolerating very soft foods, walking on the treadmill and down 25 pounds!
It's great to be on the other side with all my Marchers!
Praying for Rob!
Lee

Holy cow Lee! What is up with you tail enders? I can't believe what you all are going through - but I'm glad you are home and doing better at least! Wow - keep us posted on how you continue to do - no more surprises!
BTW - I had a lap for my gallbladder and I agree, the lap was MUCH worse for pain than the open!

I'm so glad that things are better for you now Lee. It's a shame you had so many problems. Don't shy away from posting though. A lot of marchers have had some tough starts, and we are here to help each other through the tough times. But there are more victories and celebrations that lie ahead. We want to share those too!

Hi Lee, its me Trish another "caboose"...I also have not been on much, and I had a couple of extra days in the hospital because of a "nicked" lower bowel that had to be removed and an episode of Atrial FIb that had me in the cardiac wing fo 2 days, but after hearing about Rob and what you have gone thru I feel like it was a walk in the park....now that I am home and feeling better the fun has begun trying
to figure out what the heck I am doing
, trying to get to the right portions and foods (there was some great suggestions I just read that have me excited about tomorrows food adventure
So I am glad "we're back". I look foreward to hearing how you are doing...I do feel like this has been the right choice, I can't wait for summer!!! Trish
