Pureed Suggestions..Please
Does any one have any suggestions for pureed foods? I am soooo sick of eggs, and pudding and jello are following close behind. Chicken, tuna and fish make me gag
My Dr says no soups at all
I have tried mashed potatoes but don't really want to eat many carbs. I am forcing myself to eat cuz I know I have too, but I don't feel any hunger at all. Just feel yicky. Open to any suggestions.
thanks!

Debbie! Hello Shy One!
I was going to say pureed chicken curry, then I read about that chicken aversion! Oops! Not only that but you probably aren't ready for that quite yet anyway.
Okay - believe it or not, you can have Cream of Wheat and get your protein in. Get some of that Carb Countdown milk. It has 12 grams of protein per 8 oz serving. Make a serving of cream of wheat (which also has several grams of protein per serving itself) and doctor it up how you like it. I can eat 1/2 a cup serving, so I get quite a bit of protein this way. It's really good too!
I have it with bananas....yum.
Other suggestions: What about yogurt? There are some sugar free ones that aren't necessarily low-carb but lower in carbs. I get my local store brand which is 16 grams of carbs with zero fat and they are delicious...esp the lime and lemon. They also make those low-carb yogurts but I think they are rather slimey and I'm not fond of them.
Next suggestion: Cottage cheese in numerous ways. I like taking SF jello dry and mixing it with Cottage cheese...it makes a nice dessert. I also will use cottage cheese in a cucumber boat (get the ones with the big seeds and core out the seeds, add the cottage cheese...yum!). I know you aren't into chicken yet, but the Costco roasted chicken (I hear the Tyson might be identical to it) is heavenly and wonderful cut up in tiny pieces nice and hot over cool cottage cheese. It goes down really easy for me.
Also, you can get Genisoy soy crisps that are high in protein and fiber, and you can get the fat free Philly cream cheese (which is much better than the last time I had it a couple years ago) and put that on it. That fat free Philly has 5 grams of protein per 2 tablespoons and only 1 gram of carbs.
Also, one of the best sources of protein I've found lately is in the vegetarian meats. Boca burgers pack quite a wollop with 14 grams of protein per patty, are low fat and have only 5 grams of carbs with 3 of those being fiber (bringing net carbs down to 2). They have hot dogs and sausages and other such things. Very good! Also Morningstar Farms makes a veggie bacon that is WONDERFUL. It is reminiscent of a bacon cracker to me - jus****ch it so it doesn't burn. But that is a wonderful treat sometimes.
I was able to handle chicken vienna sausages as well...not sure if you can, but it might be worth a try.
Last, but not least is the Protidiet suppliment I drink. The tropical punch is about the only flavor I care for but it's refreshing. 15 grams of protein and 2 grams of carbs per packet, and 1 packet mixes with 5 oz of water, so it is a nice concentrated form of protein. I drink 2 at a time so I get 30 grams in the morning for breakfast. It doesn't have any funky protein aftertaste because it's made with hydrolized gelatin protein.
If I think of any others, I'll post again, but that's about all I can think of for now. Oh - and I do enjoy my veggies like broccoli and cauliflower. They can be cooked nice and soft and you can chew them easily to a pureed consistency without having to puree it ahead of time.

Dina..
Thank you! for all the wondeful suggestions. I never thought of the jello/cottage cheese combo. I never thought I would like cream of wheat so I never tried it, but adding a banana to it makes it sound much more appealing
I agree about the yogurt. I tried some of the carb control ones and they were nasty. I can see I will be heading to the grocery store this evening. Once again ...thanks!!
I can't seem to find the protidiet drink online..hmmm

Protidiet tropical: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/cntr4weightloss/tropfruitfla.html . This is the first search that pops up on Google, but I can't find other sources in the US besides this and maybe local doctor's offices.

Boy do I know how you feel. I went through the same thing except it was alot worse than that. I couldnt eat ANY pureed foods just the thought of it made my stomach turn. I told the doctor that and he pretty much told me be sure to get in your protein drinks and the water. I hated the milky kind so I bought Protein Ice that are like fruit punch and grape and blue rasberry and drank those and drank my water --- well i put mint tea bag in it because for some reason my stomach cant take plain water. So I drank my protein drinks and drank my water all the way up until i was able to eat solid foods. i dont recommend that of course but I just wanted to give you my experience. I do think its weird that your doc says no soups??? But I couldnt even stomach the thought of soups. All I can say is that it will pass. Once you get the all clear for the solids it will slowly get better. Best wishes!!!
I found a new drink that I love (if you like yogurt) I bought dannon low carb yogurt vanilla cream and strawberries and cream and bought atkins low carb milk. I take a thing of yogurt and put it in a bottle then add the milk and shake it and its a very yummy sweet tasting yogurt drink

Thanks Elizabeth...
I do like yogurt so I will try your drink suggestion. I don't like the milky kind of protien drink either. Even when I mix it with water it still has milky taste to me. Yuck. I am getting ready to try one called roadside lemonaide in a few minutes. Hopefully it won't have that funny aftertaste that most seem to have. I am glad to hear that things do get better
.
My Dr's dietician(?) says no soup because its just like liquid and passes through the stomach too quickly so you don't get any of the nutrition benefits and you become hungry quicker.

That Dina has great suggestions. Here are a couple from me.
1/2 c Cottage cheese with 1/4 c applesauce. I even have the sweet kind. My doc said that there is not enough sugar in it for me to dump and I don't.
1/2 c Riccotta cheese with 1 splenda and a flavoring extract - just a little - vanilla, or almond - or chocolate.
Mashed rutabaga or pumpkin (sp) - with butter and salt ....mmmmmm good, and has lots of vit. A.
enjoy.

I hated cottage cheese. In our nutrition class, someone suggested mixing 1 tsp. Catalina (Kraft free) dressing with 1/2 cup low fat small curd cottage cheese - said that it tasted like LASAGNE! So, I went home & tried it. And now I have it at least once a day. It tastes to me like the filling of lasagne or manicotti! heat it up a little and it's SO GOOD! Try it! I am getting tired of the boring purreed stuff too! So I am venturing out on different stuff - grits with purreed ham in it, egg beater with Borden's FF cheese in it like an omelet (makes 2 servings usually), If you have a Wal-mart nearby, they have sugar free, fat free Blue Bunny yogurt with lots of delicious flavors - coconut cream pie, blackberry cream, strawberry, blueberry - YUM! I chopped up some of my Easter smoked picnic ham to where it was minced with a boiled egg, added a little fat free mayo & spread it on saltines. YUM! If I come up with some more stuff, I'll let ya'll know. Also, I fell in love with Crystal Light Sunrise Orange flavored drink - SO GOOD! Sugar free Tang tastes similar and is cheaper! Talk to you later!
