Sue, I am 8 weeks out tomorrow, and still no magic bullet on energy, but I am able to make it through the work day, and actually think about rather or not I want to go anywhere after I get off. I am still really tired from the work day, but it gets better as time goes on. -Sherrie (-56)

Hi Sue.. I am having the same problem. My surgery was March 24th. I have no energy and feel weak all the time. I have a hard time making it through the grocery store. I am not sleeping during the day though, and actually have trouble sleeping all night. I was suppose to return to work May 5th, but there is no way I can perform my job feeling like this. I am also trying to find ways I can feel like my old self. Debbie

Hi Sue, I am glad to know I am not alone when it comes to feeling tired, I really have been trying to not take any naps during the day, but I am sitting more than I would like to, I am lucky in that I don't have to go back to work till the 17th, but I am worried about no energy....hopefully everyday we will be feeling more energized!! I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and feel very well. I was sluggish for a litlle while but I find that the more I do the better I feel. I am 57 years old and have always been a high energy person. I am not talking about exercising like a jock but simply going about daily living. I also find that getting out and socializing stimulates me to have more energy. Hope you feel better soon. Louise

Hi Sue, how are you doing? I know what you mean about sluggish and tired all the time. My surgery was March 22 and I am FINALLY able to get out of bed and do something other then just make it to the couch. I feel very badly because my 2 year old keeps asking to play and I just kept saying "mommy can't today honey." It was horrible. Last week I started feeling a little better and each day was better and better. Today I cleaned most of my house, didn't take a nap and went birthday shopping for my little girl. So, when I saw my doc. last week I asked about the energy level. There were a few things she suggested. I believe that I had mild depression after the surgery but from what they told me, dehydration plays a big part in that. Are you getting plenty of water. I still can't get in all my water but I try to drink drink drink in between eating. Not having enough protien will also lead to being weak and tired. Again, I am not getting in much protein but each day I try to get in a little bit more. I can't use the protein drinks personally. And then it was suggested to begin B12 supplements, it is supposed to give you an energy burst. So, to sum up all of my rambling 1. water water water 2. protein protein protein 3. Try B12 Good Luck. Email me if you want to talk Sam

Sue, Check with your doc and see if they will give you a B-12 shot. I was dragging the ground at 2 weeks and went in for my 2 week check up and they gave me one and I'll tell you, with in about 30 hours I felt much better. I go in tomorrow and hope that it's time for another. Also, how is your protein intake??? Are you taking Vitimins???All these things seem to effect your energy level. Get out and get a little exercise, take a walk around the neighborhood or go to a park and walk or the mall, exercise also helps with energy levels. If you still feel this way, talk with your doc. he may want to draw some labs and make sure that you are not anemic. Hope that you feel better soon. Whitney

Hi Sue - I was soooo glad to read your question! I had surgery on March 29 and I still feel like I could sleep all day! I am trying to ease back into work full-time this week but ended up leaving 2 hours early because I felt so drained, lightheaded and sleepy. One of the hardest things about returning to work has been finding a way to get in all of the protein and water while dashing from one meeting to the next. I felt better once I got home, ate a high-protein meal and took a nap! My biggest energy problem is first thing in the morning. I sleep like a brick! I get in one position and wake up 4 or 5 hours later in the same position without having moved. Considering that I have sleep apnea, that is unheard of for me - with the CPAP, the tubes are irritating so I move around alot and without the CPAP I constantly jolt awake trying to breathe. Is it possible that after 4 weeks, we still have the anesthesia in our systems and that contributes to our sleepyness? Sorry for the rambling but it is great to find out that I am not alone with this problem. Wishing you all the best, Mimi
