I WANT POP
My surgeon said no soda.
But I have had it anyway. In fact, although I only have a it a few times a week, I DO indeed have it. I just get the diet Pepsi products which lose their fizz quicker and pour it over moist ice. That takes a lot of the fizz out but leaves enough in for it to be palatable. When I have it like this, I don't have any problem with it being too carbonated for me.
I know some surgeons advise against it and others don't care. I look at it as one of those things that I wil have to decide for myself. I decided that it kills my urge to eat when I shouldn't be eating, so I go for it!

I was told no soda for a year, then diet is ok. I was at a friend's house a few days ago, and she had a can of mnt dew, and I with my water. I dipped my finger in her soda and tasted it, and made a mad dash for the bathroom. It tasted awefull, and i can't even imagine why i drank so much mnt dew at one time in the past. I am fine without the soda.
I am 6 wks out and still nothing really tastes good too me. I could care less if i eat or not.
Thank-you all so much for your responses.
I have been driving myself
with this. A flat coke would be better then no coke at all. It is really the only thing I miss. I am finally off pureed food that was really making me sick, and to burp would be a great relief most of the time. I guess it will be one of those things I have to try because other wise I am going to go
All of your input has been such a great help. Thanks again for making me feel like I'm not alone. You guys are great.

Hello!
I'm 8 months post op just checking out other forums. Sodas, according to my doctor (J.K. Champion, Atlanta, Ga, founder of Atlanta Bariatric Center) are absolutley fine after 8 weeks. He does recommend Caffiene free, though, since Caffiene is a natural diuretic and can inhibit weight loss. Some of my favorites are Pepsi, Coke w/Lime, Sunkist, Dr. Pepper (all Diet of course!). Diet Rite also makes good products.
I guess my advice would be to start slowly. Small sips with maximum intake of only 2oz until you are used to the new, 'bubbly' feeling.
Good Luck!

The people I have seen who have this kind of withdrawal have been helped by Crystal Lite (many flavors). It gives them that "treat in a bottle" they're missing. I find the lemonade flavor tart enough that, though it isn't carbonated, it's kinda reminscent of bubbles. Run out and get some, girl!

I drink Crystal Light, but it is wayyyyyyyyy too sweet for me. I've found that the only way I can hack the other flavors in a bottle are to mix it with the lemonade, and even then I water it down. I do like the Sunrise Orange drink mix though - that stuff is super good!
However, I do have to say that none of those other drinks holds a candle to the ice cold Diet Vanilla Pepsi over ice....

I never really liked soda before but MAN I smelled my husbands coke from McDonalds and it smelled sooooooo good and I took 2 small sips and WOO HOO! It tasted sooo good. It was weird. I never really liked coke or pepsi but man did it taste nice.
I dont want to really try any more just because I dont want to start drinking it because of calories. but it sure was tasty
Best Wishes

I had kicked the pop habit monthes before surgery but latley it's came back full force! The other day I decided I would just take a sip and spit it out just to get the monkey off my back. Well when I did it tasted horrible~I even asked my sis to taste it and she said it was fine!
My favorite drink right now is Tropical Punch sugar free koolaid...Tastes like the real stuff! YUMMY!!!
