I am depressed- Is anybody else having a slow weight loss?
It is so hard to avoid comparing ourselves with others. It is always the fastest losers that catch our eye too! I tried really hard to set my expectations low enough that I would not be disappointed. I hoped for 20 lbs the first month and got 25 so I was very pleased! Twenty was more than I had ever lost in a month before. I have lost another 10 since then (4 more weeks). I am hoping to continue 10 per month.
There are many factors which go into the speed of loss. Of course, the things we can control (calories, protein, water, exercise), but also things that we can't control. These are things like age (older people lose slower), number of yoyo diet attempts in the past (the more times you lose and regain, the harder your body holds on to the weight), your starting BMI (the closer to ideal, the harder it is to lose), gender (men just have it easier!), and probably dozens of genetic factors that we don't even understand.
As an old female yoyo dieter, starting at BMI 40, I did not expect my loss to be as fast as some others. But I have less far to travel on this journey than some, and a slow pace will still get me there.
Stalls are frustrating, but I have made it through a two week one, and expect more of those as well. Increasing protein and decreasing carbs seemed to help then.
Unlike most of my diet attempts which started strong and died off within a month, I'm in this for the long haul. It is a marathon, not a sprint, so it is fine for my body to find its own pace. At least, that is the way I try to think of it!
Hope this helps...

I started at 350 so I thought I would lose alot fast. NOT. I have managed to lose 48lbs and it has been 2 months but for 15 days straight I didnt drop at all. That was so hard. I was afraid maybe surgery wouldnt work for me. So I know how you feel. We just have to do what we are supposed to do. I am sure next year we will feel like it fell off. Good luck to you.

Don't be discouraged..... I have been following the diet..I've been exercising...and I've even gained 4lb it's over w/me and the scale I'm not gonna weigh my self so often...Try not to weigh your self in 2-3weeks I know it's easyer said than done but still you need to be positive!!! Were all in this together......

Sharon,
At my one month check up I had lost 20 pounds. I had a small tantrum because my scale at home was closer to 25 pounds. The doctor told me in no uncertain terms to stop weighing myself at home. To follow my food plan and do what I was supposed to be doing and the weight would come off. Also, if I lost 20 pounds per month in a year I would lose 240 pounds. Since I only need to lose about 140 to 150 pounds, that put it in perspective.
While I would love to have the weight just drop off me, I also know that it is less of a shock to my body and health to lose it more slowly.
Be sure you are eating enough. You have to get your protein and water in so your body doesn't shut down in starvation mode and hang on to the fat.
Hugs,
Mo
