What are your problem foods?
My food problems? Pretty much anything I put into my mouth with the exception of jello. I huck on any and everything, sometimes I have a warning other times I hafta run. I don't know if I'm eating too fast or what but that stuck air bubble thing is more often than not what gets me. The food that I eat (or drink) sits in my esophogus (sp) and the air is trapped below it. Each time the air starts to come up it pushes the food up rather than going past it. Hence the huck. Last night it was so bad that I hucked in the bathroom and then went outside to smoke and while I was sitting there smoking away all of the sudden I started salivating real heavy (maybe Bubbles is up to Bundy's tricks!) and then WHAM! Good thing I had a trash can there. I have tried varying my eating, you know, no carbs, no sugar (which doesn't make me dump) or no carbs and no sugar together or just whatever. Liquids don't make me hurl but then I still get the bubble thing going on. I kept down 1/4 of a turkey sandwich with the crusts cut off, one ounce of string cheese, 4 ounces of regular cherry jello, a cup of coffee and my water. I figure that if I don't lose SOMETHING then something is way wrong! I think I'll try to eat and not huck, I don't care what but something. I know I'm physically hungry but this has been going on steady for three days now so I know that emotional hunger is also playing into this feeling. Well I have good news. I had lost to 287.5 and then bounced back up to 290 and stayed for a day and then slowly trickled back down to 287.5 and held for another day. This morning I didn't see the ".5" part so I think my stall may have ended....
Love and Hugs, Gayle
Gayle,
The same exact thing happens to me ALOT! It either happens to me when I eat to quicky, don't chew enough or take one last bite that I shouldn't have. I start to gurgle so badly that it hurts like hell. I have the urge to burp but nothing will come out. Finally I start salivating like crazy and then I know I'm gonna
Its such an awful feeling. Sometimes when I
nothing comes out but a huge burp and instantly I feel better. Strange.
This has even happened to me when I drank my water to fast. The thing that worked best for me is timimg myself when I eat and chewing really really well. It usually takes me 30 -45 minutes to eat. I find if I eat faster than that then I end up gurgling and getting sick. Anyway, CONGRATS on your weightloss. I know how good it feels to finally see the scale moving again. My scale doesn't move for 2 weeks out of the month. This month I actually went up about 3 pounds.
But I'm happy to say its moving again.

i must have had the same surgeon as you and kelley---
if i take one or two bites too many or don't chew quite enuff==and i am trying my darndest to slow down.....tonite, i put my fork down and hubby asked what was wrong--i answered"i'm trying eat slower"....didn't convince him tho!
i have learned to carry my btc water cup with me in the car - otherwise i have to wait til i finally do hurl to go anywhere-
also-tortilla chips- they DO go down much too easily.....
oh- and raw onion; i had bought a turkey cheap- 49 cents a pound! so we cooked it and made soup and etc- i also made turkey salad- and the onions got me...and i love onions!
and my pills make me feel uck--they feel like they get stuck in there but they don't really......
My problem is that I'm a big CHICKEN! bok bok bok...
After hurling a few times on various things, I have gone back to the pureed stage foods and I'm afraid to move on again.
I love shrimp, but I don't chew it well enough and get that stuck feeling with it. Eggs, which I formerly loved, now feel too heavy and I can only get 1/2 an egg down.
The good news is bananas are sweet again. Right after surgery, bananas tasted like white chalk. They're better now. And I love oranges, those settle really well for me, probably because they are mostly water.
I need to get brave.
Good question Dina.
I really haven't tested the waters - which is so strange for me. I'm usually the first one to break all the rules. You can only imagine what what my parents went through with me.
Anyway, surgeon says no beef. ham, raw vegetables or citrus until month 4 so I haven't gone there. The most adventurous I've been has been a fortune cookie and that was fine.
The two things that do bother me are chicken and pork rinds. The chicken just creates general unhappiness in the ol' pouch. Nothing serious, but certainly not comfortable. Now pork rinds are another matter. I thought I'd chew up a couple of those for a low carb, high protein snack one night. I think I'd eaten 2 or three when they reconstituted themselves and became a prize winning 4-H sow in my little tummy.
Connie
Bless me fellow WLS-ers, for I have sinned.
*I've eaten low quality protein (bologna WITH regular swiss cheese... I was wanting some comfort food that day).
*I ate low quality red meat (tried to, anyway... burger meat from McDonald's.. that was a rough road)
*I sipped diet coke that wasn't completely flat.
*I drank a light beer that wasn't completely flat. (ps- just the one beer gave me the "losing the buzz" feeling, even before I finished it. Guess I won't have to worry about any potential future drinking problem.)
*I'm starting to like Doritoes WOW chips. That's actually a slight improvement because before I tried them, I found myself having Tostitoes once in a while (like, once a week... I used to be able to eat a bag in 2 days)
*I have eaten small amounts of the pasta that comes with my chicken alfredo, small amounts of the rice that comes with my Chinese chicken & vegetables, and once I made microwave Mac & Cheese (although I mixed protein powder into it also to try to atone for the carbs.)
*I ate half of a Bagel once (I'm 8 wks post-op. I ate the bagel half to "carb up" for a five mile charity walk. Or that's what I told myself..
*I had two bites of a fruit danish. (reward for the charity walk - but after the two bites I threw it right into the garbage to keep myself from succombing to the temptation)
I've done all of these horrible things and more, but I'm living to tell the tale.
On the positive side,
I'm eating veggie burgers (check them out, high protein low carb, plus probably some 'roughage' too.)
Sometimes I don't even finish the chicken that comes on top of the salad.
I've lost my taste for eggs and tunafish (not together!)
I was able to eat a small quantity of high quality red meat (filet mignon, med/rare, was very good no problems).
and most importantly,
I am excercising so much more, and I'm so happy about it. I really believe that moving your body is the key. At this point we've all lost 20,30,40 or more pounds - I'm trying to take advantage of this time where my body is still conditioned to carry around 260 and I'm doing it a favor by making it go for walks only pushing 230!
Take care you guys.
