EXTREME DIZZINESS
Hello lovely Marchers. I just recently started eating some solid food. I am also on the tail end of a round of antibiotics to clear up an abscess under the incision from open surgery. My problem is this: I have become extremely dizzy for about a week now. I am ok as long as I am sitting, but when I get up to walk, I feel drunk. The doctor seems to think that the meds are too strong thus causing this, but he hasn't taken me off of them yet. The abscess is beginning to close up now and the drainage has gone away. Any thoughts on why I may be so dizzy? Love ya'll!!!

Gary -
We'll gladly take you as manservant to all us wimmen.
We may not have a Queen, but we have a bunch of buzzzzybodies!
Okay - the dizziness. You have not been eating for a very long time. I had dizziness as well as muscle aches. Part of it was the potassium deficiency, but part also was thiamin deficiency. If your doc doesn't have a list of lab panels that bariatric surgeons run, let me know and I'll get a list for you. My doctor consulted with some local surgeons to get that info. Apparently they don't typically run certain panels for the general population, thiamin being one of them. If your doc doesn't specifically check for it, you'll never know until it can do some major damage.
This isn't to say that you aren't getting your vitamins in and such, but sometimes there is an adjustment period of figuring out dosages and all. Since you and I are the rogue Marchers having gone out of the country for our surgeries, it's very important that we have docs that are up to speed on the rest of this stuff.
Thiamin and other deficiencies can be relatively easy to fix - even if you have to get a shot once in awhile, so if you find out you are, it shouldn't take long to get on an even keel.
It could be any number of things from dehydration everyone mentioned, to potassium, to any number of vitamin deficiencies. Make sure you pummel your doc to get comprehensive panels drawn for you so you know where you stand (or, as your case may be SIT)!!!
Let us know how it goes, pleeeeeeeease? I wanna make sure you are doing okay!!!

It may be from not getting in enough fluids or protein. Your body really nees the proper nutrients right now. This is happeneing to my husband right now And I know its because he is not getting in his protein, he's only getting in about 15 grams of protein a day. He says he feels so weak... Anyway, Call your Doc just to make sure. Good Luck!

I APPRECIATE THE RESPONSES. BETTY, LOOKING SO FORWARD TO THE JEANIE OUTFIT.
MY URINE IS NORMAL. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO UP MY WATER INTAKE BY 4 OUNCES EVERY 1 AND 1/2 HOURS
ALSO UP MY CALORIE INTAKE TO 1000. I WAS AT ABOUT 500 FOR THE DAY. HOW DO YOU GET SO MANY CALORIES WHEN YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED 4 OUNCES EVERY 3 HOURS 5 TIMES A DAY?
AM I SUPPOSE TO EAT A 4 OUNCE BANANA SPLIT EACH TIME?
LOL--JUST KIDDING. I AM EATING SOLID FOODS NOW SUCH AS TUNA AND EGG SALAD, CHEESE, ETC...ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I LOVE YOU ALL.

Hey, Gary (sorry I called you Ken in my last post to you!) -- I've been very dizzy as well, always when I stand and begin to move. I would bet based on the great responses you've gotten that neither of us is getting in the right level of fluids AND protein. It is so hard to get it all in every day! Tell you what, let's both up the ante on H2O and protein, and see if the dizziness goes away. An experiment of sorts, what do you say? Hope you feel better. Maureen
REENIE,
I AM GETTING IN THE PROTEIN (70 GRAMS) VIA PROTEIN POWDER ADDED TO MY FOODS BUT MY CALORIE INTAKE IS NEXT TO NOTHING AND I HAVE TO ADMIT, I AM NOT GETTING IN 64 OUNCES OF WATER A DAY. I CAME TO WORK TODAY ARMED WITH MY 3 WATER BOTTLES AND AM TRYING TO SIP ON THEM OFTEN SO I CAN GET MORE WATER IN. HOPEFULLY I WILL START TO FEEL BETTER BY THE WEEKEND. STILL DIZZY THIS MORNING THOUGH.
