Probable blockage? Shrimp?
I've had one experience of dumping (chicken marinated in teriyaki sauce)and swore I would never let anything like that happen again. Well, last night I tried shrimp (it's on my food list) and was careful not to overcook it and to chew it slowly, since I had vomited up some before. It seemed to be going better and then, about 20 minutes after eating, I got the tennis ball in the chest feeling, nausea and proceeded to vomit periodically for 3 hours. Brought up some of it, not a lot though.
This morning I'm fine and did soft foods for breakfast and am slightly sore under my left shoulder blade.
Since it's a major holiday, I'm feeling fine, and have an appointment to see my doctor next week, I'm not bothering to call him today. I'll just keep on with the soft food till tomorrow per his notes. I'm really annoyed as I was already being treated for low potassium and soooo did not need more throwing up to help it along.
Any advice in the interim? Anyone else have trouble with shrimp? It's odd that I ate lobster once just fine, but maybe it's more moist?

I personally don't have any problems with Shrimp - but everyone is different. I mean, I have dumped on hash browns, and not on things that I definately thought would make me
or dump. So you just never know. I know people who have dumped on carrots and other people who use them as a staple food. If shrimp doesnt work for you now, it might later. But if youre like me - I will NEVER try hash browns again no matter how far out I get - once bitten, twice shy!!

Gano,
I haven't had any trouble with shrimp or for that matter any protein as yet...(knock on wood). I can eat beef, chicken, fish, shrimp, and crab legs. (Crab legs! yum!! my favorite food in the whole wide world!!!)
But I have had lot's of trouble with the carbs that go with most "normal" meals. Although I can eat raw baby carrots and cooked baby carrots (3 or 4 ) both without any tummy troubles; I really have to watch it with potatoes. Those low carb tortillas and breads have too many carbs for me. Of course I found one of the manufacturers of "low carb" breads in a advertising gimmic. They sell their bread as LOW CARB with 8 carbs per slice, but checking their regular bread it has 9 carbs. 1 itty bittiy gram difference and they're calling in LOW CARB. GRRRRRRRR!
So I guess my question to your question is...What did you eat with the shrimp? could it be carbs that snuck in and got ya???
Congrats on the weight loss!!!
Happy thoughts,

Nope, just some zucchini that I've had all along. It's the second reaction to shrimp, so I'm pretty sure. The thing I might try (but not for at least another month) is whether it's too dry and needs some low carb sauce. Going to talk to my surgeon first and wait a while in any case. BTW, and I know all doctors vary on their food recommendations, we've been told to avoid any bread whatsoever. The reason is that it tends to "clump" in the pouch and then create a blockage and dumping. I have eaten corn (not flour, told to avoid that) tortillas without a reaction.
The variability from person to person (boy if there was ever an instance of one man's meat is another's poison) makes it hard for us to recommend for each other. I find it comforting to get the feedback though.
