Sad story about the death of a wls patient
Hi,
I just wanted to post this here. It is sad, but I knew that you all would keep this family in your prayers.
I just got home from a support group meeting. The town I live in is a buzz and there was a big news story covering the bypass surgery this week, because a young woman died last week.
She was 29 and had 5 small children. It is just awful. Rumors abound of course but I was impressed to see my surgeon at the meeting tonight to set the record strait and try to stop the out of control spin!
My surgeon didn't perform this womans surgery but was involved upon her readmission.
Dr. Todor was in tears tonight sharing this with all of us. It was tough to see how hard these docs take this stuff as well.
It seems as though Shannon went in for surgery 2 weeks ago, and had what appeard to be uneventful surgery. She was well cared for and discharged on saturday. She was fine over the weekend, started vomitting monday morning, went in..and went to surgery asap..she had a leak.
That surgery went well also, and everyone fully expected her to recover. They were all so surprised that she didnt..she died that friday morning. It is just awful.
Our community is in a real 'uproar' over this and trust me when I say the surgery is not receiving good press around here.
I have only told a handful of people about my surgery..for a variety of reasons..but its hard now to hear everyone crabbing on about it..so I am coming forward to try to educate people on how people (young women too) get to this point and how worth the risk is to those of us.
You dont see news stories about people dying from High Blood pressure, diabetes, or Heart Disease..but those are all real possibilites for obese people.
Its been a rough week. Please pray for Shannon Lynne and her husband and 5 young children who are without their Mommy tonight!
SUre makes us appreciate our daily stuggles with this huh?
Take care everyone,
Kris
I will be praying for her family. It is a very sad thing to lose your mommey at such a young age. I will defanetly keep them all in my prayers. I am also keeping you in my prayers it seems as if you are going to have a big story to tell. You are also going to be a good education tool for your town. I am praying for strength for you. Sarah T
Kris, this story is devestating -- I am so saddened by it. I pray that Shannon has found peace in her journey and is watching out for her husband and children from a place we will all know one day. I wonder if there's something we could all do for the children, collectively as the March Board. We might all want to write a short note of encouragement, or perhaps even make a small individual donation (which might add up, collectively) to a trust fund for them -- if one isn't started yet, perhaps we could start it up for them? I'm just thinking out loud, guys -- what do you think? God bless everyone, Maureen
