I've been in the hospital !!
Well people , I've been good and not eat anything bad for a couple of days !!
We ate at Applebee's and I had some of DHs grilled chicken and salmon , about 2 oz of each and 1 slice of carrot and 1 slice of squash and 1 broccoli flower. I eat this at least once a week. Anyway, before we got home my stomach started to hurt. Just like it used to hurt before I had my gladbladder out 3 years ago. It has done this a few times before but it would only last a few minutes. Wed. night it wouldn't stop hurting. After 2 hours we called 911 after a few more minutes my husband called them back and they said they had another emergency. So we left home, I couldn't wait !! As soon as I go to the hospital I told them to call Dr. Proctor and they said the ER doctor would have to evaluate me. I told the ER doctor when I got in there about my wls and to call Dr Proctor and he said he'd do test first. They wanted me to drink about 24 oz of stuff so they could do a cat scan . I told them I couldn't drink it , but they said try. I drink the first glass and it came back.
I tried again and the second glass came back.
So they did the scan without me drinking anymore. I was in the ER from about 8:30 P.M. till 3 A.M. Thursday morning, then they put me in a room. When a doctor came in that works in the same group my PCP works in I said shouldn't we call Dr. Proctor. He said no What was wrong was not because of the surgery. Then my PCP came in today and I said we need to call Dr. Proctor , he said he didn't think we needed to because what happened was not because of the surgery .
But guess what , they don't know what was wrong with me. He said it might be a stone had formed after my glabladder was taken out or it might have been a virus. But the test didn't show up anything , except my white blood count was up Wed. night and they were down on Thursday morning. I hurt so bad that the pain medicine make me drunk as a skunk and nothing on me hurt but my stomach. then all of a sudden about 6 A.M. Thursday morning it quit hurting. I didn't have to throw up except when they told me to drink the stuff for the x-ray and I didn't have to go to the bathroom. I feel fine now , I came home today at 2. Have any of you had this happen to you ? And should I still call Dr. Proctor? Judy

Judy, So sorry to hear what happened. Maybe once a week I will wake up or get very painful stomach cramp. It goes away after a few minutes, usually at night but not always. I have not had a chance to tell my doctor yet.
I think you should contact your doctor and let him know...he may have a better idea than the E.R. doctors. Donna

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but it sounds like there might have
been something stuck in your outlet & maybe it took that long to clear
out of your system. Glad to hear you are o.k, butwould definately check'
your surgeon & make sure nothing else might be wrong.
Happy New Year! Hope it gets better,
Marilyn, the Bearlady

So sorry! What a scarey experience. Yes, by all means call your doctor. Next time you feel the need to call him, don't suggest--demand that he be called. Or get to a phone and call him yourself. EVERYTHING is potentially WLS connected. At the least, our WLS doctors need to be a part of a diagnostic team, if not heading it up. I know that with today's insurance companies in charge, we sometimes feel powerless to make our own decisions, but when you are in this type of trouble, it is time to be demanding.
I hope whatever it was goes away and STAYS away!
Joy
Judy,
How infuriating!!! This just makes me insanely mad when I hear things like this. Those doctors should have contacted your surgeon right away instead of feeling as though they could handle it themselves!!! There are WAY too many what ifs when it comes to wls. These people who are not specialized in the surgery ASSUMING they have everything under control and it not being wls related makes me fume!
THEN they wonder WHY there are so darn many malpractice suits out there!!! Well wake up!
Ok I'm done venting now... I am SOO glad you are feeling better. Make sure you call your surgeon and ... if it were me... I would push him to do and endoscopy to make sure everything is ok. Im a nervous nelly when it comes to pain because I start to think... twisted bowls and intestines and strictures and such...you never know what those pains are from!
God bless and I hope you feel much better
