Surgery=bonding

Since I am now in a place where I can do activities without instantly getting out of breath, me and my 12 year old son have been working out together and bonding in the process. This is the best part of my surgery. We plan on walking together nightly as soon as the rain stops and we on occasion do a richards simmons work out together- we laugh and talk and feel better about ourselves when we are done- a great life lesson to teach, I feel like I am being a better role model on the issues of being healthy. I forgot how great it feels to run and challange someone to a race- I haven't won yet, but I will!! Dawn 268/180/150

Dawn, I was thinking about this same thing the other day. I am much more active and chatty with my children now that I can do more physical things with them. We too enjoy working out together, either walking, running, weigh training, or videos. Sometimes our time together is just them laughing at me while they watch me work out and they all gather around and use me as their circus freak side show as they watch the loose skin shake this way and that way. They dont do it to be mean, they just find it amazing and funny, as do I. I am thankful for the healthier times we have had together and all the extra laughs, hugs, and bonding. Janelle

This surgery has certainly done wonders for my relationship with my daughters. I have 2 girls age 19 and 16 and apparently, they had both been quietly worrying at my wife about my weight and my health in general before I lost the weight. They are both much happier now and I find that I get many more random "out of the blue" hugs these days. Several nights ago I found myself chasing the 16 year old around the house after a particularly heavy round of Dad Abuse on her part. Imagine her suprise when I caught her?!!!! Mike

That is really cool. I dont have any kids, but I have 5 nephews and 1 neice. My oldest nephew is 14 and he is working on his personal fitness merit badge. It is a required badge to obtain his Eagle Scout. He has to run a mile. He asked me, to help him with it. I said sure!! I will run with you!!! How cool is that? Never thought I'd be helping anyone with a personal fitness merit badge!! Rhonda -71

I also don't have any kids, and unfortunately my nices and nephews all live many states away from me but my 3-dogs will love it once the snow melts and it warms up. I see many happy days of dog walking with 3 very happy dogs in my imediate future. Leslie

It's great, isn't it? I live with my 16 year old daughter, and we love going clothes shopping! She is a big girl, about 5'10" and could stand to lose about 40 pounds. I don't press her to do that,because I know what it's like to have pressure on you to lose weight...my mother did it all my life. But now I can shop the junior department (I get all my pants and tops in juniors, the skirts are a bit too youthful and short). My 20 year old son, who is away at college, freaks out every time he comes home and I'm smaller. I get lectured by him now about not losing any more weight. My daughter secretly confessed to her girlfriend that she feels I'm getting too thin and may get sick. I'm glad my son is open with his feelings, but kids do love to hide things, so sometimes reassurance is needed so they know we're fine. what is the weather like in tel aviv this time of year? Take care, Joan
