Hey Maureen;
That sounds like a very good day to me! I don't know what the calorie count of some of those items are, but I think thay you would come in fairly low.........especially in light of the fact that you've burned a fair number of those calories with your exercise. If you can find something a bit better than the M&Ms for that 4PM snack, you'll be golden!! I'm now into the 3rd day and I feel so much better about myself. Take care my friend and I hope to see you at the Tuesday meeting.
Mike
Keep at it Mike. I'll share this story with you. As usual, kinda longwinded, but you'll get the point.
In the midst of all of my remodeling work, I have been good about getting to the gym. However, I have been noticing pain in my right elbow area, and was treating it with Tylenol and getting some relief. About a week ago I woke up and could barely move my forearm. Up until this point, I hadn't been using OTC meds during the day, just at night. Now, I'm not bragging here, but I just have a high tolerance for pain. But, I popped a couple of Tylenol and got some relief, but still had problems. I'm lucky in that I have two Doc's and a PT in my immediate family. I was informed that I have an extreme case of tendonitis in my right arm, and a mild case in my left. My lifting and all of the remodeling have brought this on. I was ordered to stop lifting and avoid, if at all possible, putting my wrists at an angle with any weight bearing. Now, I have become such a gym rat that the thought of not being able to lift bothered me. What happens now? Well, I try to run 10-12 miles a week. But I live in Montana, so winter can be a challenge. I can't stand running on a treadmill because I change my gait and it hurts my knees. I really am going somewhere with this, I promise. Anyway, we get hit with over 2 feet of snow. I don't mind running in that, but then the temp drops to single digits. It just isn't comfortable to run when it is that cold. I can't really do the elliptical because of my arms, so I decide maybe my body is trying to tell me to take a little break. So, I haven't worked out since Saturday. I haven't changed how I have been eating, and yesterday I noted that my belt moved back one notch. I have gotten out of the habit of weighing myself all of the time, but was surprised to see that I had lost ten pounds in the six days that I haven't been working out. I have had some swings of five pounds each way in a week, but I haven't had a ten-pound loss in a week for about four months. When I got dressed, the belt went to the hole below what I have been using again. I just isn't right. Why are the WLS Gods messing with me?
As usual, I like the Happy European Girl's message. Be vigilante, but don't beat yourself up if you slip. Make good choices, but don't forget the reason you wanted to lose weight is so that you could have a good life. Don't be afraid to live. I have made mistakes with food, and paid for it. But hell, life is not about riding along on a flat, straight road. To me it is about flying along with hills, valleys and curves. Maybe I'm off base here, and I'm not advocating living with reckless abandon, but a little controlled craziness can be fun. Don't think for a minute that there are times I wake up and think that I would rather stay in bed, but then I challenge myself and try to make it fun. Stick with it Mike, you can do this, I know you can.
Hey Ken......
It's good to hear from you although I'm sorry to hear about the tendonitis. I feel your pain partner! I'm still doing rehab after my rotator cuff surgery. I still have very limited use of my right arm after 2 months. Sometimes it gets so frustrating I can't stand it!! There's so many things that I want to do but just can't. Thankfully, as a supervisor who oversees the work in the field and does office work, I can do my job. If I were still in the craft.....I would still be out of work!! With all of that said, I must encourage you to take it easy on the exercise and let your body heal. As for the weight loss, maybe the lack of strenuous exercise is cutting your appetite??
I totally agree with you on enjoying life. I'm trying to make good choices, but at the same time, I don't want to totally abstain from what I like. I'm trying to discipline myself to eat small portions of things that I love and not go totally bonkers. For example, last night, my wife made lasagne using low- fat cheese and the Oven-bake noodles which are much thinner. Lasagne has always been a major trigger food for me. Well, last night I had a rather small portion and really enjoyed it!! If I can do things like that once in a while as a treat, Staying on track will be a lot easier. Even with the lasagne, I still came in at around 1300 calories yesterday. Anyway, Ken I'm starting to ramble. I wish you a quick recovery and continued success. Stay in touch.
Mike
