Topic: I think I'm done losing - for now at least
I've decided that most of my body is thin enough now. I've lost 100lbs, and although I've got another 10lbs to go til I reach 'normal' bmi officially (my first goal), I think this is where my body wants to be right now. My original personal goal was to get to 135 which would mean that I had lost 1/2 my body weight, but I don't think that I was being realistic.
My collar bones stick out nicely and I don't want them to stick out further, and I've got skinny legs and my girls are shapely (with a good strong bra - without, well, lets just say the floor gets a sweeping hee hee
) My belly is the problem area, but I don't think trying to lose more will fix that at the moment. When I said this all to my husband, he agreed and said I was skinny enough - how weird is that - I've never heard that in my life - I'm skinny enough
Woohooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have decided to try and stay where I am for a while and let my body settle. I'm also going to see my PCP to see if I can get a LBL (& try for thigh lift) without having to self pay (which we can't afford).
If I can maintain where I am without trying to lose and not put weight on, I will see what happens after a few months after my body has done all it's adjusting. Maybe the fat will re-distribute!! or maybe I will want to work at losing again.
But for now - I'M DONE LOSING - I'M HERE I'VE ARRIVED - How amazing is that - it is such a great feeling (if not slightly daunting worrying about gaining it all back in repeat performances of previous diets
).

Topic: Glycemic Index? or are all carbs 'bad'?
Does anyone know or follow the GI (sp?) for their carb intake. I try to restrict my carb intake anyway. As you know though the dreaded carb snacks creep in regularly which I constantly stuggle with. I get low sugars after I've eaten certain carbs.
My main diet pre wls consisted of pasta, rice & potatoes. I've cut those out to almost nil - was hard to begin with but I've got used to it and only have a very small portion occassionally.
For main meals I'm ok, but am having a hard time thinking what to have for light lunches now. Whereas before wls I would have a sandwich or something similar, now I try to have protein, so usually cheese, tuna or ham (without the bread around it!!), but am bored with that now.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Would a baked potato be ok if I have protein with it?

The hotel we are staying at has an indoor pool - so far I have avoided going swimming in my new body with all it's saggy skin (I used to go swimming even at my largest) as I am so self concious even though in my mind I know it's crazy.
But my daughter wants me to go swimming with her so desperately - she even pointed out a swimming costume in a thrift store (no I didn't buy it hee hee), but I don't think I can avoid it while we are in Texas - guess I'll have to bite the bullet and keep my fingers crossed that no other guests decide to go swimming

Congratulations, Deanna. I am setting my goal to work up to running only one mile, but you are an inspiration!!!

We are staying for 17 days, so plenty of time. I'm the only Brit in my family - hubbie and daughter are Texan (well Millie get's to be both, lucky thing). We lived there for 4 years and came back in 2002. Even though we've been back for a while, I still miss it and think of it as home.

I am so proud of you! You just keep on moitivating yourself and don't rest on your achievments, but keep on moving forwards.

How exciting Ruth!
Even better to stay in a hotel and make it into a holiday! Did you say that your husband was from Texas? Have you been before? I visited a friend in Dallas/Ft. Worth and it was a really good time.
I wish I was closer, I would meet you for tea...
Topic: I ran another race!
Hello everyone!
Yesterday I ran my second 10K race (6.2 miles). It was raining and I got so wet! I noticed that almost all the runners that came out for this race were "die hard" runner types. I think all the normal people stayed home because of the heavy rains! So I felt a little scared that I would be last because I felt like I didn't quite fit in. But I wasn't last ... I finished in 1 hour, 7 minutes, and 1 second. I actually beat my last 10K time by almost 3 minutes! And I finished 95th out of 120 racers ... and every single person except for 1 that finished after me was YOUNGER than me! How funny is that?! That made me feel pretty good! Especially since they all looked like the stereo-typical runners with long skinny legs. Mine are short and not so skinny!
Anyway, I'm still signing up for races once a month to keep myself motivated to keep working out. I'm aiming for a half marathon in April (13.1 miles).

Hurray, Ruth! That is so exciting! And I'm so glad to hear you'll be staying at a hotel instead of with family ... you will probably have more fun and be more relaxed that way. How many days do you get to stay?
