I plan out all my meals for the entire week when I go shopping on fridays. We eat a lot of fruit and salads so I have to go shopping at least once a week. I never eat this well before and I love it.. now I go to the store thinking.. ahhh.. a nice chicken salad for tuesday is good.. works great for me and I dont buy junk food.. except the ice cream of course.

Do they know about the wls? What do they think/say? I never used to stay for the meetings much, but they say thats mostly what helps rather than the diet they give you. I guess being a part of it, like you gives an incentive to keep at it.
Do you follow the prescribed diet they give or do you own thing?

Hmm, that is interesting. I wonder if the UK will follow suit eventually?
I would love to visit Canada, it's on my list of places. Hoepfully I'll get there one day

That's interesting since here in Canada the government has just released a new "Canada Food Guide" ... the old standards were just like yours with a load of carbs ... the new guide focuses on protein and healthy carbs. Hopefully the US will soon update their guidelines!

Topic: RE: dumping dumping dumping
after typing that i went and had a string cheese, just an ounce and within a few minutes i was fine,
did some research:
Hypoglycemia due to dumping syndrome and other post-surgical conditions is best dealt with by altering diet. Including fat and protein with carbohydrates may slow digestion and reduce early insulin secretion. Some forms of this respond to treatment with a glucosidase inhibitor, which slows starch digestion.
so instead of JUST cream of wheat, I need cream of wheat with an egg or cheese chaser?
oh I bet that is why lots of peps in the south have cheese on their grits. heehee to prevent the hypoglycemia.
okay.. so 1/2 the cereal portion and 1/2 an egg portion or 1/2 a cheese portion.
what a PITA!

My daughter had a project from school - she is learning all about healthy eating. Great I hear you say, yes I agree so she won't have the same eating problems that I grew up with.
Only trouble is that she is being taught the food pyramid - carbs at the bottom, fats at the top, with a few proteins in the middle - know what I mean? I don't agree with that any more - way too many carbs - she's been taught that she needs way more carbs than anything else in her diet and that they are the foundation to all food, and that they will give her energy. Now while I know that 'good carbs' are good, I now know that not all carbs are good and stay away from them as much as I can as I'm addicted to them and make protein the foundation to my meals.
So...do I just go along with it, she's only 7, and probably won't remember a thing anyway, or do I make my voice heard and put my point across. The project is over now - I didn't say anything, but I'm interested to hear what you would have done. It does make my blood boil when things are taught as fact when actually it is opinion and there are several opinions out there.

Hi all
so we're in the middle of the week - how's it going? I've had ups and downs - very stressful weekend and first part of the week, looks like it is beginning to improve now thankfully.
I hit the cookies big time on Monday, realised what I was doing and reigned back in on Tuesday. Today I'm pleased with how I've eaten.
How are you going to get through the rest of the week? What works for me is planning - planning meals and planning snacks, rather than waiting til I've just walked in the door and ravishly hungry and look to see what I can prepare quickly.

I belong to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) ... we have a weekly meeting and weigh in. I've belonged for years so these people have seen me through my biggest, through surgery, and now my smallest. They are a GREAT group of people and we all support each other in whatever journey we are on. I love going to my weekly meetings ... I'm even the Secretary for our group and have been for 3 years. It's my break during the week and I enjoy it!

Weigh****chers type thing - I'm surprised you've never heard of them. Before wls over the years I've tried them all. Not sure if I want to go back to that weigh in, sit through a class type thing and be on a 'diet', but hey, if it works...
