I am 3 weeks past surgery as of today! The gassiness goes away in about a week to a week and half. Do NOT drink anything with a straw. Just sip! Every day it gets easier! I promise. Chin up!!!! Dee

Topic: RE: Lap-Band port
I had my band done July 15th. After a day or so I noticed one incision hurt more than the other. Touching it I realized that I could feel the port. It feels like a lump under the skin about the size of a marble. I can not feel the band at all. As for the needle, I haven't had a fill yet but have read that people don't hardly feel it at all. One lady said that she had lots of inflammation and soreness at the port area when she got her first fill and it didn't hurt at all. Hope this helps.

I am considering lap band and am curious if you can feel the port or the band? Also what have people experienced in the adjustment process, does the needle hurt like a shot, how do they determine what is too much or too little? Thanks

My surgery was on the 10th and I didn't have my first BM until the 16th. Did your doctor give you a stool softener? Also, are you drinking your protein? That's my biggest problem and it seems to be an indicator in how I feel. When I walk the stomach pain is less than when I sit or lay down all day. I hope this helps.

The surgery was $7 thousand, plus the flight (130.00). Very professional. I actually got better care there than I have ever gotten in a hospitial in the US! I have no problem recommending this to anyone. I had insurance that would cover the surgery. But, I would still have costs of around 12 thousand after insurance! I was told about Mexico from a friend that is in a support group that had women and a man that had theirs done in Mexico. I did lots of research and talked and e'd lots of people. Look into it! Dee

I had my lapband surgery 5 days ago. Everytime I drink the 2oz I feel air go in as well and then I feel miserable and on top of that I so gassy. Does this every go away? When does the swelling go down as well?

It is perfectly normal not to have had a bm yet - there's nothing going down that would contribute to making you have to go. I was lucky - didn't experience much pain, but they say it's different for everyone. Your doctor should be able to prescribe something that will help if the pain in unbearable. But do know it will get better. Right now you feel very weak. Every day will get better and better. It helps to make yourself walk. When I first got home, my honey insisted I walk the dog every morning. I didn't get very far at first, but I could tell I was going further each day. At night, we'd go to a park - I usually ended up on a bench to wait for them on their way back because I couldn't get too far, but I think all this trying helped speed my recovery up. I'm two months past surgery, and I feel fabulous. I haven't had this level of energy and strength for years and it feels good, so just hang in there - it will get better! Good luck! Carin

Topic: RE: 1 week after
When I planned my surgery, they told me "6 to 8 weeks for recovery." I said to myself, "nah, two weeks'll do it!" And just took my two weeks vacation, so I wouldn't have to go on short-term disability. I now know why they say 6 to 8 weeks - it takes time for your body to heal and for you to build your strength back up. I didn't go through depression as much as being fed up with myself for being so flippin' weak, but I have great support at home and was made to get up and out every day to walk our Westie each morning (never got very far, but then I found every day I could go a little further), and each evening when my honey got home from work, she'd take the dog and me to a park for a walk. Again, each day, I could go a little further. Oddly, for me, food didn't interest me at first - I was almost afraid to eat, but applesauce (natural - no sugar) was my best friend - that and herbal teas. I am now two months out and feel fantastic. I've gotten my strength back - actually surpassed my strength level from what it used to be pre-surgery. I'm climbing stairs and taking hills like they were nothing, so hang in there. It will get better and you will be so glad you took this step. Good luck to you!

How much did it cost you to go to Mexico? How clean and professional was the experience? Thanks!

Topic: RE: Lap band Port 2 days post op
Lovena, I don't think seeing your port is that big a deal.....as the swelling goes down I bet that disapears. The gas pain will probably last for about a week. I have had other surgeries also and the gas takes a while to disapate. I stuck with clear liquids for a week post op. Don't push too much at one time.....take everything slowly. Sip! Hope this helps.
