Had my 6 mo check up
I had my 6 mo check up yesterday, and thought I share a couple of things I talked to the surgeon about. First off he says I'm right on target, he expects you to lose at least 50% of excess weight by 6 mos (I've lost about 60%).
We also talked about plateau's, I told him that I barely lost any weight in Feb and he told me that having a plateau or a stall is a sign of still being in rapid weight loss. He said that when you are consistantly losing 1 lb a week for a couple of months that could be a sign that the "rapid" weight loss is over.
Calories, what a topic! I've had a lot of eating issues recently he believes it is because I have 3 ulcers. So I asked if maybe I'm not getting enough calories (I average about 550 a day). He said that as long as I'm getting enough protein that the low calories are not a problem
.
POP, I'm dying for a diet pepsi. We've never talked about it, I just don't drink it cause there's a lot of folks on here that say we shouldn't. He said as long as it doesn't hurt, then it's okay. I asked him about the pouch stretching, he said that is not true
. Because the pouch has two openings, the gas doesn't stay in the pouch and it can't stretch it out. He did stress that it is NOT a substitute for water. So last night I had about 4 oz and it was great, I had the best burp ever

Thanks for posting about your 6 month check up. Im going for mine Friday. You just answered some of the questions I was going to ask.
I have some days when it seems I hardly get any calories in,,just cant eat. Other days I feel like Ive overeaten because I can eat so much more. Strange.
I hit a plateau too, didnt lose anything for about 4 weeks, then lost 3 pounds and am still losing, so that was encouraging to hear that I am still in rapid weight loss. I know it is amazing the way the inches come off! I lost three from my waist in a week and a half! I jumped from a size 18 right to a 16W in a very short time. It is so exciting! I havent worn this size in 18 years, and then for a short period of time, when I was doing Physicians Weight Loss and living on 700 calories a day. fell off that wagon when I started craving peanut butter because we got no fats on that diet. gained all my wieght back and a lot more.
Congrats on your success so far!!
Im gonna ask about the diet pop too. Its been 6 months since I had any, except a sip here and there from hubbys. What your doc said makes sense.
Have a great day! We are having a blizzard here in Indiana, on the first day of spring no less! Oh well,,a good day to compute and catch up on the message boards!

Thanks for posting. It was very informative! I am due for my six month check up, but haven't scheduled yet, maybe because I feel ashamed that I haven't lost as much as I thought I would (down 96 total but I was a heavyweight at 394). I figured I'd for sure be well over 100 pounds gone by now. Anyway, good to know about the plateau info and calorie info.
And congrats on the diet Pepsi!
Holly
