Topic: Removing Drains and Tubes
I get my G Tube and JP Drain out on Thursday. Someone please tell me - and please be honest - does it hurt? I've had them for 2 weeks and absolutely cannot wait to get rid of them. My G tube has irritated me from day one - I have muscle spasms where my old stomach clamps down on the tube, which is excruciating, so I can't wait to get it out. But I'd like to be prepared.

Topic: 1week postop as of tomorrow!!!
Hi everyone- had lap rny almost a week ago and hanging in there. The pain is what is keeping me from doing a lot of things like walking outside or even going up the stairs at bed at night. Having troule getting all my liquids in but darn hard. I hat sleeping on my back at night but I cannot sleep on my side yet. I did have a complication and spent 7 hours in the or. They fixed everything and was in the hospital an extra day. Overall I think I am doing pretty good considering and hope that everyone is doing well in there journey. Shannon

Well that horrible nurse did contribute one thing to your learning experience -- how NOT to act. lol There are always going to be a few people like that in the world and they can teach us...just not in the way they might think they're teaching us. I'm guessing most of the people she's b-tching to are feeling as uncomfortable with her behavior as you are. Good luck and pursue that HIIPA thing. She needs to be taught a lesson about that...especially being the medical profession.

Topic: Started RNY lap converted to open - does the pain ever get better?
I just had the surgery a week ago. They started my RNY surgery plus gall bladder removal lap and converted to open. I feel like in some ways that I have double the pain. First there is the pain from the lap surgery due to the gas they pumped into my abdomen. Then there is the pain from the huge foot long incision that runs belly button to breastbone. All that on top of the pain from the internal rearranging of my organs. I've been forcing myself to burp as much as possible trying to lose the bloat. The massive cuts and one big cut on my abdomen make walking, sitting, standing or pretty much any movement at all painful. My back hurts when I try to stand or walk because my stomach muscles can't do their work anymore and my back muscles are trying to take over with little success. I don't try to do more than I have to. I've been a big baby about the pain and meds so far. I don't like the dopey feeling from the narcotics my dr prescribed. I need to stay alert to make decisions right now -- my little dog is in the hospital and the decision to keep him alive or put him down is coming soon. The liquid tylenol and motrin the dr recommended to replace the narcotics gave me the diarreah I think. So I've been try to make it thru without any pain meds. I don't sleep much because I hate sleeping on my back and that is the only position possible at this time. I feel pretty much like a beached whale on my recliner only getting up every once in a while to eat, drink, bath, pee or find my way to bed at night. I'm feeling so overwhelmed! Does anyone out there with the same surgery have any suggestions on how to get rid of the pain without narcotics? Any ideas on when I'm going to be able to walk without crouching over like a grandma? When will I be able to sleep on my side again?

Topic: RE: Am I on track with everyone else????
Hello everyone, i also had my surgery on Sept 12. i weighed in at 283 on that day tomorrow will be 3 weeks and i have lost 25 lbs. wooohooo. i have been very careful with what i eat im so afraid to get something stuck i hear its painful. i do have to confess that i suck on a pretzel until the salt is gone and throw it away. i have tried the fat free pudding but it has sugar in it and so far this has not bothered me, thank you god! tomorrow i start soft foods and i am so excited. i had some problems with bleeding after the surgery they just took my drain out 4 days ago. i still have pains in my left side so bad i have to sit down. anyone else having pain like that? i went for blood work and a chest xray today just to make sure. I know that crying seems weak and embarrasing but it truly is an important part of every individual. There is a reason that God created the gamut of emotions, so use all of them with pride.

Topic: RE: Bummed about Family reaction!
Thanks for all of your responses. i am doing well 6 days post op. I am up and almost at 'em. A little weak but my appetite is picking up where I can nourish myself AND get in all the vitamins. I will say that the support of my OH family is phenomenal. This is my first time back at my computer and the very first site I went to. I cannot say enough how it has eased the burden of being alone. My mom is bringing dad around but i am not worried about it. I made a decision for ME. My long life and good health will be proof enough for anybody who feels otherwise! Thank You dearly for your sincere thoughts and prayers.
