Topic: RE: New to this.
Lynette,
I had RNY a month ago so I probably can't help a lot with lap band.
You might want to buy that "Weight Loss for Dummies" boo****ep hearing about. I haven't read it but I hear it has a lot of good information in it about nutrition and exercise. You might also want to try the lap band message board and see if anyone can help you there.
Assuming you can eat soft foods, the best way to get protein is from dairy, meat and legumes: cottage cheese, beans, ground turkey, peanut butter, milk, etc. and, of course, protein shakes. I try to get my protein in first before any veggies, fruits and carbs.
Also, try chewing your food to a pulp before you swallow. If I don't, my stomach gets really upset.
Good luck.

Topic: RE: Sept surgery sisters questions
Surgery date: Sept 26th, lap followed by open RNY
Starting Weight: 231 at my highest but a lost about 10 pounds before surgery
Current weight: 191
Current Diet: soft food
Protein per day: I'm suppose to get 60 but I'm having a tough time getting it in
Water: 32 ounces but I try to drink more
Calories: I don't know. I haven't kept track.
Whats the hardest thing so far:
Adjusting to everything is hard. I'm past the worst of the pain and itching. My latest adjustment is eating the right portions. I keep going back to my pre-surgery habit of eating too fast then I get sick because my new stomach can't handle it.
How do you feel:
I love the weight lost. I don't like the weakness, upset stomach or the incision that hasn't healed yet. I keep telling myself that change takes time.
What is your Favorite Meal:
Sounds weird but peanut butter. I find I can eat it on crackers and the protein is good for me.
What have your family and friends thought so far:
My husband has been fantastic. He is patient and never complains about anything including my whining. My children have been wonderful. They check in on me and help me with everything and anything. Some of my friends have been really supportive. Some of my friends are used to being able to depend on me and they are having a difficult time being unable to depend on me right now.
Topic: RE: How long does it take to feel better??!!!!!
I'm sorry its been difficult for you. You have a lot of company here. The adjustments can be a strain. I wish I knew what to say to make it better. All I have is a *HUG*. Hope you get the help soon.
Topic: RE: How is everyone today
I like this sharing game.
I'm 46 years old.
I've been married to John for nearly 9 years.
I have four children, one daughter and three sons. They are all grown up and have left the house.
I'm a Software Developer (a computer geek).
Personality wise, hmm, I've been told I'm funny but sometimes I'm pretty serious. Mostly I'm just laid back and I like to take it easy. I like most people and I try to understand them rather than get mad at them.
Beach or slopes? Definitely beach. I live in Wisconsin and its only warm here 3 months out of the year so anytime I can sit on a hot beach is a good day.

Topic: RE: Curves?
I used to work out at Curves (a six month stretch about 3 years ago before my neck injury) and I LOVED it. I'm planning to start up again there very soon, since I'm almost 6 weeks out now and need something more than just walking. The great thing about Curves is that everything is laid out for you - it requires very little instruction. However, there are always instructors there to help you correct your form if you're using a machine improperly. And the machines are designed to work you as hard as you work them. You can always go by and take a tour, and sometimes the locations will set you up with a free week trial. Give it a try - I think you'll like it.
