Surgery date: Sept 7th
Starting Weight: 281
Current weight: 247
Current Deit: soft food
Protein per day: between 60 and 80
Water: 60 oz
Calories: couldn't tell ya, I don't count them
Whats the hardest thing so far:
Realizing when I'm full before I get sick... meat does this to me quite a bit, just 2-3 bites and it can get stuck and my body reverses the engines. Between that and the queasiness for the last 3 week... it's been a little frustrating.
How do you feel:
UNBELIEVABLE! I've been treated by a chiropractor for low back/neck pain, knee and ankle pain for the past 5 years. The lowback pain is gone! My knee/ankle pain is sooo much better. I can workout without having to ice after....walk with no pain, it's amazing! I'll deal with the morning queaziness anyday for this trade off!
What is your Favorite Meal:
Chili is my fav so far, goes down well, and is tasty!
What have your family and friends thought so far:
Very supportive, though I'm not handling the attention very well... almost taking the compliments negatively (not that I say that to anyone, I know they're being nice, I just am not dealing with it well).

Topic: RE: Am I eating too mcuh?
Hi Anne - congrats on your surgery -- but YES I agree, it sounds like you are eating too much!
Have a look at your "Barix Bible" in the "eating to heal" & "eating for living" sections. They outline what would be a typical daily intake (along with sample menus), including protein+ counts for each food group & what quantity this is.
Most importantly - don't forget to contact your Barix dietician for any of these questions -- they will call you back quickly & get to the heart of your needs.
I am just 8 wks out tomorrow ... at my main meals, I am eating max 1/2 - 3/4 cup of food. I only just started having a bit of carb (1/2 English muffin) ... though I have been eating oatmeal or 1/2c cornflakes for breakfast for about 2 wks.
At your stage still in healing, it is unlikely that your little pouchie can tell you that its full ... it is still swollen & mending. That is why the dieticians say - measure/weigh your foods for now, so as not to overdo it.
I haven't had the guts to try eggs yet ...
I loved them pre-op, & don't want to find out that I cannot tolerate them. (I already have had to cut tuna fish & chicken off my list for a while due to
/ dry heaves ... thank god for cheese & chili !!)
I find that only in the last few days, am I feeling my pouchie trying tell me I am full. Many people throw up if they eat too much .. I haven't had that happen to me but I haven't pushed that limit.
The other suggestion I'd make ... protein first, then veggies .. only then the potatoes. This gives you the nutritional stuff first. Especially since you appear to be tolerating meat already.
At 4 wks post-op, you would still be in the pureed food stage (wk 4-5) ... moving to soft foods at 6 wks. Have you accelerated this?
Anyhow - hope that gives you some ideas. Good luck!
ttfn - ElizH
