Topic: RE: Started RNY lap converted to open - does the pain ever get better?
Hi Judy, I think I understand what you are talking about. I started out as lap but ended up being open. The pain is the worst I have ever had, and I have had three previous surgeries. I know about trying to walk, and your back hurting, and everything you have talked about. My surgery was 9/21/06. I spent 4 days in ICU. I am better now, and the only thing I know to tell you is that you need to try to walk. It does help with the pain and soreness. I still hurt. I quit taking the pain medications because I didn't like the way it made me feel. Overwhelmed!!! Absolutely!! I have questioned myself over and over about why I did this to myself. I was able to lay on my side 2 days ago. I sleep on my side, but haven't been able to. 2 days ago I could stand up straighter, yesterday, I couldn't. Today is better. It will get better, but it is a slow process. I have spent so much time in my recliner, I could scream. I think my back hurts from that too. I keep telling myself this will end, and then it will be good. Just hang in there a little longer, and I hope it gets better every day for you. I think it will. Becky Bush Kentucky

Topic: RE: OMG I woke up laying on my stomach...
That is so funny when I read your post I had laugh the insicion under my left breast hurt like crazy too and got really red very iritated, when I laid on my left side i would put my hand on it kind of cuping over it and supporting it from pulling it seemed to work, also maybe laying it against a pillow will work. the good news is judging from your time your staples should come out soon, then sleeping is easy street. I am a stomach sleeper talk about rough. I was afraid to lay on my stomach till this week didn't want to mess anything up inside (crazy i know) now am sleeping like i always did. good luck stella sw 356/cw 330

Topic: OMG I woke up laying on my stomach...
Only 9 days out and apparently last night I got a little too comfy. I was sleeping fine and then I went to toss or something gave me an eye opener and when I realized that I was layin on my incisions I let out a scream so loud my hubby jumped up. All I could say was baby get my medicine! I have been of the pain meds for a few days now but the soreness of my incision under my left breast was an unbearable shock! How are you guys sleeping to avoid these type things? I am normally a side sleeper.

Topic: RE: Hey All!!! Tomorrow is 1-week poost-op for ME!!!!
I surprised myself and was able to cook shrimp and chkn for my hubby and it did not faze me a bit! Those are my favorite by the way. The problem that I am having is that I am sooooo thirsty I wanna cry. I try water but it is super hard to get down. I sip and nothing quenches my thirst except maybe a popsicle but after its gone im back to square one~very frustrating~

Topic: RE: Am I on track with everyone else????
My surgery was on September 11th. I am down 25 pounds and have been stalled for 3 days. This is my 2nd stall already. My first was at 12 days out and lasted a week. I am hoping this one doesn't last a week too. Although I am not losing weight during the stalls, I am losing inches. My pants are even getting longer...I realized it's because my butt is getting smaller I guess I am going to have to get used to being a stop and go loser. My surgeon requires us to be on full liquids for 3 weeks, then pureed for 2 weeks, then soft foods for 1 week. I will be starting my 2nd week of pureed this weekend. I thought it was going to be gross, but it's really not that bad. The only food I have found that bothers my pouch is egg beaters. They make me nauseaus and burn my esophogus. I also found that taking my thyroid replacement meds with water hurts. I happened to have a glass of crystal lite with me when I took them this morning and I didn't have a problem. My pouch seems to not like plain water any more and all I drink is CL now. It also doesn't like liquids cool or room temperature. It much prefers when I freeze my liquids to a slight slushy. Heather

My surgery was 9/1 and I've only lost 13 lbs from the weigh in the day before but I have lost 26 inches. (In May 11th I weighed in at 271 lbs, August 30th I weighed in at 255, October 4th I weighed in at 242). My problem has been grazing. I eat the right portions but I tend to pick at the same meal until it's about time for the next. It is still hard for me to "waste" food and throw what ever is left after 30 minutes away. I have been having a difficult time with vitamins too. My pouch doesnt like the prenatals, it doesnt like centrum, and it'**** and miss with Flinstones Complete. So the hunt is on for a vitamin my pouch is favorable with. Liquids have been hit and miss. I can drink cold to cool temp liquids but if it's warm it tastes funny and kicks in my gag reflex (even plain water). I can drink soup broths pretty well after heating them up though. It's been an interesting dance with the pouch as to discovering what it does and doesnt like. :D

Topic: 9 days post op and feeling fantastic
Well this is my first post. On surgery day 9/25/06 found out that I had lost 65 Lbs since my surgeon visit. WOW. I know that I am losing fast now, just dont know how much until I see my surgeon on the 12th. I miss solids, even pureed. Haven't got the ok to go to puree yet but soon I hope. I think my first puree is going to sound strange but it is something i am craving....mashed potatoe and meat loaf. Will let you all know how that goes..LOL...But havent needed insulin in 3 days blood sugar staying below 140 rate even after eating a bowl of tomatoe soup. Yeah maybe no more shots. Later everyone
