Topic: Home after RNY
My procedure was on Monday around noon. The doc said it took a little longer than usual because he had to work around some scar tissue. I have no idea what that's about, but I'm glad he was able to do what he did.

The surgeon came by on Tuesday and said he'd release me the next day, and I asked, "Why not today?" He thought about it and said as long as I wasn't feverish or nauseous, I could go home at 4pm.  I was fine, so they let me go after just one night. I was ecstatic.

I'm very sore, but the more I move the better it feels. I have some liquid Loritab to help with the pain. Beginning today I can start having full liquids, so I'm looking forward to tasting some strained cream soup. Meanwhile, I'm sipping and walking. The doc said these first two weeks he wants me to concentrate mainly on staying hydrated. When I go back to see him in a couple of weeks, we'll get more specific about vitamin regimens and the like.

At my doctor's suggestion, I went on the liquid diet early, so I was on it for a month before the surgery. In that time I lost 45 pounds, and he said that's the reason I did so well. I can't believe it's over. I was very scared, but it turned out just fine. The pain is real, but it's temporary. My tool is in place, now I just have to live with it and use it!

Hi Laura, I hope you get this soon because I'd love to talk to you.  I'm in the exact same position as you - I'm having surgery with Dr. Garth Davis tomorrow morning also!  I spoke to him this morning and he said that we'll probably have it.  What time are you supposed to be there and what time is your surgery scheduled for?  I'm hopeful that they'll allow these surgeries.  I, too, couldn't stand the two week shake stuff and would hate to think that it was a waste or that I would have to do it again.  Have you done the magnesium citrate?  I'm definitely praying for both of us that this works out.

i think i may have a broken wrist!!!  OUCH!!  the pain is unbarable!  i've spent this entire day on the verge of crying.  i don't think i've ever felt pain like my wrist hurts.  i have an appt in the morning with an orthopedic.  please say a prayer that it's not broken and he can solve my pain problem.  I have my VSG scheduled next Tues!!!  I'd feel too goofy to go into surgery with a broken wrist!!!

I am new to this board but get grreat strength from it . First of all let me say as a man that you are not weak for being emotional. My wife is pre op and been talking about surgery for 3 years now and just got a surgery date 11-25-08 will be her big day! About 8 months ago she told me that she was ready to do this and I freaked out . The last 3 months have been an emotional rollercoaster for me ,one day I'm ready for surgery and the next day I'm thinking are you nuts ? Enough babbeling ,let me just say that its been rough for me as a spouse and can imagine that as a post op life has to be tuff in the begining but hang in there we are all pulling for you !!!

Steve!!!!!  I thought it was just me!  I am a freakin emotional wreak!  I cry over almost anything and the 1st few days out, it's been 1 week as of today, I have been crying and asking myself if I made a big mistake.  I'm guessin that this is all normal.  I also haven't lost enough weight to prove these fellings otherwise...yet.  Cheer up!  We'll be okay!

Blessings,

I've always been a person with my emotions in check but after surgery.... cried when I was folding socks... yeah socks. It's the effects of having surgery it's also all the hormones in your body just flooding out with weight loss. Don't hold back the tears and just keep mointoring the progress and if you don't see it improving talk with somone!

PS I thought for two weeks after surgery what did I do to myself?? Now only 2 1/2 months out I'm thinking what would I had been hadn't I done this?

Topic: RE: Help! I am really afraid
Fear is fine.... the best combat to fear is knowledge, ask about what others have experienced.  I'm not 51 so I can't comment on that but I can tell you that I haven't been sick, nor have I lost hair. And I can tell you that even if I did get sick or lost some of my hair..... I would have still done it. Nothing feels better than looking in the mirror, or walking into a store and buying what you want... or just feel all over BETTER...
