Thanks for all the posts. I heard all sorts of nightmare stories about pills getting stuck I was terrified to try. Update, I actually swallowed a small iron pill without crushing it and I lived to tell about it. Thanks again! Joann

Hi Christine - I know everyone says we all lose at different rates, blah blah blah, but when we are the ones not losing as we expect those words have little meaning. Bottom line is you need to talk to someone who will not just tell you hang in there (although we don't have much of a choice) Did you talk to your physician regarding your weight loss? Did you sit with a nutritionist to make sure you are eating correctly. I also was losing weight slowly and was discouraged, and actually began thinking that my surgeon didn't do any bypass but only made a small pouch. Then I thought he didn't bypass enough. I was determined to take action and do everything I could to help myself. First was very frank with my surgeon about my dissapointment. I also kept a list of EVERYTHING I ate for a week and took it to the nutritionist so make sure I was getting in the right (and avoiding the wrong) foods. What I personnally found out is that pre-surgery, I was taking a diauretic and post surgery, the medication was stopped, started and stopped again. My body took a long time to adjust ( I mean MONTHS). I also found out, and I can only speak for own personal situation, I was eathing way too little for the amount of bypass I had (125 cm which is considered a small or "short" bypass. When I ate a more varied menu, I began to lose weight. Are you or were you on any medication besides vitamins that might be hindering your weight loss? Believe me, girlfriend, I feel for you. Of course, 50 lbs is nothing to sneeze at but I know you want more. Keep us posted on your progress! Joann

Hi, I'm an Octoberite also! Before surgery I weighed 295lbs, on the day of my surgery I was 283lbs, and as of last Friday at my doctor's office I was 216lbs. I went from a 26/28 to an 18 or 16 depending upon the clothing. My hair has also been disappearing probably since the 2nd month....unfortunately I have thinner hair to begin with though the frizziness does tend to hide so of the loss. I think that it is a relatively fair trade for the upgrade in my life though. My weight loss has definately slowed down now, which is some what worrisome (despite all the encouragement from the doctors and dieticans that this is normal). When you have been fat all your life it is hard not to see every bump in the road as: "OH NO I"M GAINING IT ALL BACK!!!". I'm trying though.... It is so nice to read all of the postings. It gives me a boost.

Hello, It looks like we were in the hospital for surgery at about the same time! I am so glad that you responded....I was feeling sort of down because I've only lost ~5lbs in the last month. My surgeon told me that I was doing fine and to stop stressing but it is nice to hear that someone else is at the same place.... Thanks! Lynn 283/226/216

Topic: RE: Hello out there October family - lower stomach pains
i was feeling lower stomach discomfort sunday night for the first time. it was not related to eating because it was not while i was eating. and i did not feel sick to my stomach. i was very conserned because i had not felt it before. monday morning everything was fine. but i had probems eating lunch and some problems eating dinner then tuesday i wasnt able to keep anything down and was admitted into the hospital on tuesday. they did an upper gi and blood test and everything was ok. the took some fluid out of my band and put me back on liquids. they thought it was from vomiting that i may have caused swelling. i dont know if any of the problems were related to the stomach discomfort i had on sunday but it you cant rule it out either???

Topic: Admitted to the Hospital
I had lap band surgery 10/13 Tuesday Morning i went into work and was drinking water and it came back up. then i desided to go home. i tried some yogurt and a 2 spoons of it and that came back up. i called my surgeons office and that had me come in right away. i was admitted into the hospital and they did an upper gi and blood test and gave me iv fluids. the test came back ok the next day they took some fluid out of my band and after i was able to keep lunch down (broth and juice) i was relesed yesterday. in general... i have had problems with some foods when i first start eating. i dont know if i start eating too fast or the bites are too large but i will need to vomit. after that i am usually ok to resume eating. does this happen to other people very often? my dr said because of the vomiting i caused swelling around the band area and it was most likely the reason for the problem please let me know

i received the results from my blood test about a month ago and was told my iron levels were low. i first tired an iron table that was small. i did not have any problem swallowing it but people tell me that iron tables are very hard on your system. i went to the health food store and found a liquid iron sup that is called Floradix Iron & hers a liquid extra formula. it is made from carrot , nettle worth, spinach, quitch roots, angelica roots, fennel, ocean kelp, african mallow blossoms, orange peal, juice concentrates, honey, rose hip exract, wheat germ extract.(that is the ingredients) it is 20 calories per serving iron 10 mg plus it has some vit c and b's i take it 2 x per day once before lunch and once before dinner. i have not had my blood retested yet but will mid april. in addition i also take a multi vitamin, a b complex and calcuim (sometimes i have a hard time swallowing these) Great Protein drink - 40 mgs of protein Isopure - protein at the vitamin shope i found a great tasting protein drink that i take once per day. it comes in different flavors but my favorite is Apple Melon. it takes great it is like a fruit juice. it does have 160 cal (all protein cals) the bottle reads: Isopure, Liquid proen, crystal cear steal. Bottled detonation. Nothin Like it. EVER. Ion Exchange Whey Protein so prue you can's see it.

Topic: getting disappointed....
I am now 4 1/2 months out and have lost just 50 pounds. 6 inches from waist and 5 from hips. One clothing size down as well. Problem is I was hoping for so much more at this point. I go weeks losing nothing then lose one or 2 pounds. I get all my water in and I think I come close to getting my protein in most days and I ride the stationary bike and walk. At this rate it will take me years to lose the rest of my weight. I really hoped to have lost so much more by now. Don't get me wrong I am happy to have lost 50 but can't figure out why I am going so slow. It gets depressing! Does anyone have any advice?? (I started at 278)

Hi October buddies! I was 294 on surgery day, I'm 223 now. I've gone from size 3x/26 to size 16. (It helps to be tall!) My weight loss has definitely slowed down and I haven't lost anything in 2 weeks. My hair is falling out - it started about a month ago. No bald patches yet! It's so hard not to compare to other people. One of the people on the Michigan board lost 167 in 6 months and is already at goal. I'm just happy to know that what I've lost isn't coming back and that I know I will continue to lose. I've had no complications from the surgery and when I get off track, I'm back on program within a day or two. When I used to diet in the old days, I'd have a bad day and spiral off into not just quitting the diet but gaining everything back rapidly. It's wonderful not to have to fight myself like that anymore. I'm still drinking protein shakes for breakfast every day, taking all my vitamins and drinking lots of water. I just have to get into a routine about exercise. Be well! Karen

Welcome! Hi! Surgery date Oct 14, 04, weighed 310lbs when I started my journey about a year ago. Lost 34lbs before surgery, weighed 276 lbs day of surgery and have lost 68 lbs since surgery. As of today date, I have lost 102lbs, now weight 208. Gone from a size 26X to an 18. I too am losing a little of my hair. Having problems getting protein down. Still working out a solution, will let you know when I find one that better than protein drinks and bars, can't keep them down. As for eating have to remind myself to eat 6 small meals a day. Some days I average 3 to 6. This surgery was the best thing I had happen. Be sure you keep exercising and stay away from sodas & carbonated drinks (the carbonation will stretch your pouch) and sugar. Good luck on your journey!
