Topic: Suggestions on Iron/ Still crushing?
Hi Oct babies - I had been told I am anemic and need to boost up my iron. Does anyone take additional iron supplements? My PCPs nurse suggested Slow Fe but I know time released pills are not appropiate for Post WLS.
I am 4 months out today and have been taking a general chewable multivitamin. I can't find a chewable multivitamin with extra iron, and was told chewable and liquid iron stain the teeth, and iron should not be crushed.
Also, is anyone able to swallow pills without crushing them yet? I'm afraid they will get stuck so I still crush.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks...

Topic: RE: Intro & Questions for you all
Hi Shirlene, I just recently found this board also. It sure makes me sane when I find people who are doing the same as me. When I read on the main board how great some people are doing, I feel like I am failing, but when I do some research, I find I am doing just fine.
I Had my surgery Oct. 1st and have lost 69 ponds as of today. In which I am so thrilled about. I started at 260 and today I weighed 191. I have also lost alot of inches. I went from a 24 -26 to an 18 now.
I have been losing hair just before my 3 month post op. My hair is really thick, so that does not bother me. It is still coming out and hopefully will cease to fall out soon. Take care, Janice
Topic: Intro & Questions for you all
Hello all!
I am sure glad I found this board. It will be helpful to call upon people who are at the same place I am in this weight loss journey.
I started at 315 and now weigh 250, have gone from a 26 jean and 3X top to a 20 jean and X-large top. What a wonderful feeling. I asked my doctor if this is the "norm" for someone who is 4 months out and he seemed to think I was about average.
**I would really appreciate it if you all would mind giving me your stats.... weights (if too personal... that's fine), sizes or just plain total loss?
**I also have just started losing hair (about 2 weeks ago) I'm wondering if anyone knows how long that normally lasts?
**One more thing...Isn't it an amazing feeling to be satisfied on such a small amount of food!!! I just love the small appetite that I now have and it's like I keep saying to myself..." so THIS is the "normal" way I should have been eating all these years!" (maybe a little "under" normal...but you get my drift)
Anxious to hear from you. Shirlene

Topic: RE: Question
I think 71 lbs is great. I am at 71 this morning (15 pre surgery and 56 post) I see my doctor in 2 weeks, so I don't know if he will think this is slow or just right, but I know I am happy with it. I am using the 3 mile Walk Away the Pounds Express video 4-5 times per week and eating well. Have had no complications since the surgery and feel wonderful. Also, Southern Maryland? I am in Indian Head on the Potomac in Charles County. Nice to see another Marylander on here.

Topic: RE: Question
I think that you are doing great, some people lose faster than others some lose slower, the main thing is that you are losing. I was told that if you have a high weight number when you have surgery that you tend to lose faster than most for a while then pateau. My beginning pre op weight was 377 and I am only 5 feet five inches, Had my surgery on the 21st and it is now February19th, I have lost about 105 pounds so far. I feel that you should be proud of your weight loss, and comfortable with it and 71 pounds is still quite an accomplishment since your surgery was in October also. Keep up the good work....... My Doctor thought that I was losing a little to fast but according to the charts that are given here as a tool I am right on track also.....
Topic: RE: soda poll.....
From what I have been told by my Doctor is that it is alright to drink Soda as long as it is poured over ice, and left to sit at least five to ten minutes before drinking. My wife has an acquaintance she works with that had the surgery i***** she was not told that she couldn't have or handle carbonated drinks. She had only lost 150 pounds and then stopped losing althogether. Take in mind I am only telling you of her account. Everyone will be able to handle things differently then others. I have had soda, and have had no problems with it, however after hearing what she had to say it has made me leary of drinking it. Before surgery I could drink ten to twelve or even more diet sodas per day, and now I am drinking none. I would suggest that if you really want soda ask your Doctor, and be on the safe side let it settle a while before you drink it, My decision is to limet myself, I am trying to stay away from carbonated beverages compleatly, especially since soda's cause me to bloat anyway. Some Doctors say to discontinue, and some say that as long as you pour them over ice and let them set for a while before drinking them. There are a lot of conflicting opinions however it is best to ask what your Dr Recomends, and follow his advice.
Topic: RE: HAVEN'T LOST A POUND IN ALMOST 4 WKS
I have only had slight experience with this, although I think most of us from time to time get worried that we might not lose anymore weight. It is always in the back of my mind, and in my case I think that is because of the many times that I have failed at dieting, Losing the weight only then to gain it back, along with additional weight. I agree with others there will be ups and downs. Hang in there and keep a check some weeks will be better than others but don't get discouraged.

I too was totally addicted to regular coke before surgery. I was afraid to try soda, but tried it. I found just one diet soda I can tolerate the taste of and if you want to take the soda plunge I highly recommend it for diet converts. It is DIET CHERRY VANILLA DR PEPPER. It is teh closest diet soda can get to regular. Also, Coke is coming out with a diet soda in teh spring that is made with Splenda (still going to make the regular diet coke, so don't freak if you already liked it).
I too only tolerate a couple ounces, but man does it hit the spot!

Topic: RE: HAVEN'T LOST A POUND IN ALMOST 4 WKS
Hello all who have replied to the "HAVEN'T LOST A POUND IN ALMOST 4 WEEKS"!!! Oh, and hello to all others as well.
This may sound wierd to say and may not come out the right way, but it is (sort of) comforting to hear that "I" am not alone. I lost 75 lbs in the first three months (fairly quick in my opinion), then boom...for the last 3-4 weeks I haven't lost one iota of a smidgen of a pound. My feelings and emotions were/are the same as yours...is this ALL the weight I am going to lose???? I surely hope not. My husband understands, but feels I am worrying for nothing. He says you are doing everything right, Protein, water, exercise...and not to worry. Even still, I can't help but wonder ( I am only human) that I may not be doing enough, or possibly eating too many carbs, or just NOT enough protein for my height and weight (as you see conflicting stories on just how much of one thing [carbs, protein, fat, sugar, etc.] we should be ingesting). Sure, we all get a food "plan" so to speak, from our Nut./Surgeon's, but each and everyone you hear on this forum has a different opinion. So many books tell you conflicting stories as well as far as how much protein/carbs, etc. we should be getting. Who is correct, what do we go by? How do we know just how much protein and carbs and sugar and fat, etc. is good for us individually or needed to sustain weight loss and keep a healthy body and mind? Any suggestions out there?
You are an amazing group and I love to come here for support.
((((hugs))))
