Topic: RE: Vitamin Questions
I am a huge advocate for every woman in her child bearing years to take prenatal vitamins. No matter what. My husband and I lost a pregnancy at 18 weeks due to a severe birth defect which most likely would have been prevented with a sufficient amount of folic acid PRE pregnancy. After conception is too late for many forms of nueral tube defects (spina bifida). Prenatals are great for that.
ALWAYS TAKE FOLIC ACID!!! If need be, just add a folic acid tablet to your regular vitamin. Just my $.02

My Dr. just told me that I should start taking prenatal vitamins instead of my multivitamin that I was taking. Does anyone else take a prenatal vitamin?
Topic: Anyone ever hear of...
Well as most of you know I had an emergency apendectomy a week ago. When I saw my surgeon on Friday for my one week check up he said he saw a fibroid tumor on my uterus ( I knew I had that) but then he said both my ovaries were calcified and should probly be removed. I have never heard of this and can't seem to find anyhting on the net about it???

I have started losing alot of hair, and my doctor reccommended "ADEKS" I think it is new. They have a website and that is the only place you can buy it at the moment so I am looking it up today. I also started taking biotin. Don't know if it will work but Doc said it couldn't hurt so why not.

Yeppers. I started losing my hair about two weeks ago but it really hasn't been bothering me, just a little annoying because of the length and finding it all over the house. Some days are worse than others, but for the most part it doesn't seem as bad as I thought it was going to be. Kinda of like you, I have a lot of hair, but its thin and so it almost looks like I have thin hair anyway. So, I'm not really noticing any difference because of it, just that it sits a lot easier these days, doesn't look so helmetish on my head. I've already made up my mind though that once it starts growing back that I am cutting it shorter, with some layers so that the little hairs coming back in don't look so completely out of place. We'll see...

I had my surgery on the same day as you...and yes losing alot of hair...I feel as if my hair is not as healthy now...realizing I have 3-4 more months of this til it stops...what are the views of biotin...I heard that it really didnt work...any advice?
Topic: RE: Hair loss
Right after surgery, I started taking "Extreme Biotin" (1500 mcg). So I havent had too much hair loss -- not yet anyway. I was like you -- and my hair was one of my good qualities. I didnt want to lose any of it. I have lost a little, and thats it.
However, it sounds as if you have turned your hair loss into a "positive" thing ... so I guess you are doing ok, then, huh? Thats good!
Have a great day!

Topic: Hair loss
Has anyone really started to lose hair? I have been losing a lot, which was my worst fear(my hair was always my best quality.) But, I find it funny that I am actually enjoying it. I have always had very thick hair and in the last 6 years I decided to grow it long, and I mean long. I figured I wanted it long before I was too old, I dont' mean to offend anyone... just personally I don't want to have long hair when I am older. Anyway, I have already lost a lot of hair and really I like it. It is giving me a chance to know what it is like to have thinner hair. I thought I would lose length or at least show that I lost hair with jagged ends. This isn't the case, it still looks very long and even, just different. I can do things with it that I couldn't do before with so much hair! I was so prepared to cut it off, but I am amazed that right now I don't have to. Perhaps when it starts to grow back it will look a bit odd and I will have to cut it, but for now it is an added bonus to my surgery! It could be that I am just an optimist, but I think I am liking the diversity! What a pleasent suprise, the thing I feared(sp?) most, turned out to be a positive thing. Wonders will never cease, what can I say? It just caught me so off guard that I had to write about it. And I thought not having my thighs rub together so much would be a high point! (Really, it is, I just can't believe I am ok with this hair loss thing!)
Sorry for the 'running off at the mouth'
Have a great day, all!

Topic: RE: OCTOBER ROLL CALL
Hello October Buddies,
Looks like everyone is doing a great job on the weight loss end. I'm loosing weight at a steady rate but I am also
puking 2 or 3 times/week. There is no rhyme or reason to the puking. I can eat chicken, turkey, pork and eggs just fine. But ground turkey, ground beef (96% lean), veggie burgers all make me sick. The dietician feels like it is the consistency of each that my new pouchy friend does care for. So I try to avoid them at all costs. I can also eat something one day and be fine, the next day I reheat it and I get sick. I don't know if I'm eating to fast or what. Oh, well, I guess I'm a mystery. I do know one thing life is so much easier 80 pounds lighter! This has been both the hardest, easiest, most rewarding lifestyle change I have ever taken.
Starting weight: 357
Weight today : 277
Total Loss : 80 pounds
Have a great month!
Jen
