Topic: RE: Had emergency surgery Friday!
Glad to hear you pulled through that ok! I had a couple of similiar experiences, a blood clot in my lung, gallbladder attacks, and an emergency appendectomy, just like yours. The lesson I took from all of that was, if you ain't felt it before in all your years, get it checked out. I could have easily died as well. I always listen closely to my aches and pains now, and it's hard for me, too, with my high pain threshold! There is no shame in having something weird like that checked out. We don't have to be brave all the time! Good luck, hope you are feeling better!

Well, I have a different problem. In my mind, I was never fat, just "sturdy". In the past couple of years some badly-thought-out photo-ops made me realize I was FAT, but I never completely internalized it. ...or did I?
I noticed this past week or so that I still avoid mirrors in ladies rooms, stores, even at home. I avert my face from plate glass windows. I automatically stretch my neck up if I have to look even at my face in the mirror. This weekend I was trying on closet back-stock - the stuff I hope I've outgrown. And I MADE myself look very critically. Still not skinny, but dang! SO much better!
And at lunch today a hefty person made some weight-centric remark and I agreed; he looked at me oddly and said, "But you're not overweight."
BONGGGG!!!

Topic: RE: Any luck with bread?
My sister-in-law to this day cannot eat bread well, and she is almost 3 yrs post-op. I haven't really had any problems with it, but I do better with low-carb wraps. They aren't as heavy. Good Luck!
Topic: what did we eat over the weekend that we shouldn't have?
ok ill confess I went to see sideways at the movies and managed to eat popcorn, no idea how much but lots less than I normally would have , but much more than I probaly should have. Surprisingly the popcorn went down easily with no problems whatsoever. I probably ate a fourth of a medium size tub, whcih thinking on it right now seems like way too much. why did my stomach not rebel and say it was full? I only stopped because I really felt I should stop. I probably could have grazed the movie away on the entire tub. I managed to drink nearly 20 oz of water during the movie which was one saving grace, but after the pop corn when I got home I was not really hungry for dinner of meat and protein, so had a half cup of corn chex cereal in 1% milk, which tasted so good I had a second half cup. I think I have now become addicted to corn chex cereal. I love the crunch and with spelnda I still get all the sweetness I need.

Topic: Had emergency surgery Friday!
This is gonna be a long post, sorry! Well as some of you know I was having cramps for a few days, and I have a very high tolerance for pain so they didn't seem too extreme...I continued to work out at the gym, work and do my usual things. But Friday morning I started to worry that it may have something to do with my lap rny so I called the Doc. He had me come right in, When I saw him he suspected a twisted intestine and sent me for a CT scan of the abdomen. So after the CT scan I was supposed to call him and he would advise me wether or not I needed to go back and see him. So as I was getting ready to call him, the radiologist had already called him and the Doc was calling my cell phone and the Radiologist was rushing out to get me...so they were both coming at me which nof course had me panic stricken..so my Doc says you need to stay put I am calling around to find an available Operating Room you need emergency surgery as your apendix is about to burst!!!! So I said well do I have time to go get my husband from work and he says NO! So I ended up at the same hospital that I had my rny at and had the same anesthesiologist and same surgeon so I felt alot safer since they knew how to take care of me. My husband did make it to the hospital before they took me back so that was cool. The thing is...I feel like having rny saved my life. I NEVER went to the Doctor before and would NEVER have gone to the Doctor for cramps and it would have bursted possibly killing me. So to make a long story short....if you don't feel good it is better to be safe than sorry and go have it checked out!!! Thanks for listening!
Topic: RE: I am clueless
Well, the answers go to show you that every physician, nutritionist and patient is different. Just to throw another view in, my surgeon said I should NOT be counting calories, protein, or anything. He said in my case, since I had a proximal RNY I don't have the malabsorption people who started at a higher weight than me do, so I should not be concerned with getting specific nutritional values. He said I should be eating a small but balanced meal including all the food groups. Of course, he said I should limit the amount to aprox. 3-4 oz per meal, 3 x a day and MAYBE one healthy snack.
I tell you, it's a scary thing when they turn you loose to make choices again. I'm afraid I'm going to wake up and all my weight will be back!
Good luck everyone!
Joann
