This has been the one and only event...EVER....I dont recall what i had eaten or not eaten that day...and hopefully it will never happen again..
I will say the sympotms i had RIGHT before i seized i had experienced before probably 4 or 5 times in my life but never went into seizure. PERPLEXING. Have fun in Vegas you lucky duck....i love it there.....be sure to sign up for all the players clubs in each casino you go to so they can give you free stuff....i learned that only after my 4th or 5th trip to Vegas and it has come in handy i have gotten free buffets at the Wynn, Mirage and Treasure Island...just for playing at their casino!

Hope you had a good Valentine's day Molly!  Aaron suprised me with that Vegas trip so I am getting really excited, we leave monday and come back friday in time for me to work another weekend :)

Isn't shelly's blog just the best, its so fun to be able to make "normal" foods with the way she creates them to make us feel "normal" even if some of the carb counts are modified etc.  Those doughnuts look devine.

I can get my 4's on but they are really snug.. but that is when I am up in the upper 140's.  When I am at 145 or lower they fit ok, I just am not sure I am willing to let go either, so I totally know what you mean but then again.. a size 6 is awesome too.  You are right and sometimes we have to look at the perspective we are taking for sure!!

Well, I need to run, I am working for a girl at the hospital from 3-11 and have some errands beforehand.

Have you tried Pam's protein chai mix?  Its awesome.  I know you can't have splenda so not sure what you substitute?

It's 3/4 cup splenda
6 scoops vanilla whey (i used BF at walmart)
3/4 scoop of instant tea mix
1.5 cups nonfat dry milk
1 T of cinnamon
1 t ground cloves
1 t ginger
1 t corriander (spelling? She left this out and so did I)

1/2 cup serving made with 8-12 oz of water:

146 cals, 27 protein, 7 carbs (i think i have the carbs right, its either 7 or 9) and she put this info in sparkpeople I do believe.

Enjoy!

Hi Dawn,

I know that Melting Mama (Beth) has had this happen to her and usually its when her blood sugar has droped reactively to something she ate with lots of carbs/sugar but not always.  Sometimes its grand mal, other times it is not. She has been tested and tested with NO answers.  She is right now in a hospital room/bed for almost two weeks with another series of tests wanting answers.  So no, you are not alone.  She has her computer with her at her bedside.  Why don't you email her and see what she says, shes a wealth of information and can share at least what she does know.

I am sorry you are going through this, is this the only episode so far and was your sugar low during the time of the event? *hugs* hopefully the 6 mos will go by fast.

My advice....write down everything you are eating/drinking now.  Do this for a week or two.

See where you are landing and then tweak it.

I have found that there was a time (right around thatsept mark for me too) that I was taking in 2000 calories.  I hadn't  realized I was doing that.

My exercise seriously lacks...my problem.  So I have to tweak things elsewhere and that means food.

I cut back to 1400 and lost a few pounds.

I don't count carbs or fats.  But I do get in 90+ g protein a day and try to eat a lot of beans and veggies right now.  Avoiding the PB cause that is my downfall.  I could eat PB right out of the jar. LOL

If you are working out seriously 800 cals is not enough.  He is a surgeon not a nutritionist.  Try the 1200 cals ans see.  I found 1200 still left me feeling deprived and I didn't like that feeling but 1400 is comfortable for me and works.

I hope I helped a little.  Some one else around here may be able to offer more.

Topic: Just For My Information
All--Sorry that I have not been posting for MONTHS but I have been bit by Facebook bug....I have been able to regularly talk with friends/acquaintances from gradeschool, highschool, college and some former co workers.....it really is fun/funny. Anyway i need advice. Can any of you give me an idea of how many calories you are taking in currently- and how many of that is carbs/fat/protein. I have been working out like a B**** and not really counting my calories cuz i dont know where i should be....BUT i have not lost ANY weight none at all. not an ounce and this is since September! I still have 30# to go and i am beginning to get frustrated. My dr says i can still eat 800 calories and lose weight- the nutritionist says 1200 AT THE MINIMUM....and a good portion should be CARBS......i weigh 190# (which is 9# more than last year at this time) and i need to lose more......i would appreciate any advice you can give.

hope you are all doing well.....

Mel- i know that you posted this comment to me on FB but i cannot be on there from work so i am going to comment here.....so that i dont forget to ask you. You had mentioned that you had heard of others having Tonic Clonic seizures after RNY? Has anyone else heard of this? I had a Grand Mal Seizure (the first and only) on 1/1 they did all tests EEG, Cat Scan, MRI etc and found nothing...meanwhile thanks to Texas law i cannot drive for 6 months! I did not think that it could have anything to do with weightloss surgery but what do i know?

Hi Melissa!

Happy early Valentine's Day!  So nice to hear from you and get caught up on what's going on in your life.   Best of luck with the plastics, I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.   I've never even looked in on the lbl procedure to know how much $ it is but I can imagine it must be a lot.  I keep trying to talk DH into letting me use our tax refund to pay for new boobage.  If only he'd let me start it last year (it'd have to be one at a time lol) then I'd have the complete set this spring.

As for updating from this end...Well, I'm busy paying off my bridgework and hope to be free of that bill by June so I can contemplate using that Care Credit account for plastics.  Honestly tho...if someone handed me the money and said you can get either a boob job or a thigh reduction (skin) it'd be hard to choose.  I get so frustrated with my pants because all the cute jeans are ridiculously tight in the thighs because of all this extra skin.  Only once have I found a jean that is wide legged, not expensive and fit so I bought all the store had (2 pairs!) but it is really thin denim and wouldn't hold up to daily use.  And in my job it is jeans every day.  Not to mention an annoying little feature of these jeans...they have to be ironed.   YUCK!

Sorry, whining.  ;)

I'm not on facebook, sorry.  It is about all I can manage to keep up with my December family here and the little bit I am active over on Sparkpeople.  Darn, I must be missing out on all kinds of good updates.

Vegas sounds like nice, warm fun.  Have a great time!  If your plane has to detour by way of Spokane International at all (wishful thinking!) I hope you will be sure to give me a call.  It would be fun to get to meet you at the airport even if it is only for a fast hug or two.

Weight-wise I'm bouncing around the mid-140's and can't seem to get it lower lately.  I'm contemplating getting rid of all my size-4 jeans because just knowing they are sitting around in a box not fitting is depressing.  Am trying to focus on just eating healthier, making myself exercise more, fight the carb demon and stay positive about how great I've done at maintaining all the rest of the weight I've lost instead of this 10-15 pounds that won't stay away.

And really, wouldn't you have wanted to hit a woman complaining about being a size 6 instead of a size four about two years ago???   I know I would have!!!   I was so accustomed to buying a size 26 that it never even seemed remotely possible that I'd ever be wearing A six let alone feeling sorry for myself because I'd gotten 'that big'.

Ok...it has been a good productive day here and I think for a reward I'm going to cruise over to Shelley's blog (Eggface) and try out the new muffin recipe she posted.  I'd been bugging her about her neat protein donut recipe and my lame attempts to make an applesauce/spice version and it looks like she was way ahead of me.  That recipe seems to follow the same formula as the mini-donuts and waffle sticks she posted so I think it is safe to try it in the donut pan.  Gotta say, it is such a cool little head game to be able to eat a legal donut!

Well, enough rambling...keep in touch here, have a great weekend at the hospital and I'll see you online here right?

Hugs!
Molly
