Topic: RE: Protein question
It could have happend for several different reasons. Here are a few possibilities i can think of: 1. It might have been the milk. I know that after WLS many people begin to have trouble tolerating dairy products. Suggestion: Try a lactose free product like Reduced Fat Lactaid Milk instead of regular milk. (That solved my problem ) 2. It might have been the protein. The first week on protein powder you may need to dilute it a little more until you build up a tolerance for it. Suggestions: Dilute it to 50/50 or 50/25/25 or try something lighter like Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast and work your way up to other forms of protein. For Hot Chocolate, make the Dark Chocolate Flavor and then heat it in the microwave. 3. It may have been too hot. For some people, if the temperatures of food or drinks are too hot or too cold, it can aggrevate the pouch. Suggestion: Let it cool down a little more before drinking 4. You may have drank it too fast. My doc told me that it should take me 30 minutes to drink 8 ounces of protein. Suggestion: If you drank it fast, slow down Hope this helps!

You are definitely NOT alone with this issue!!! Just be aware that anytime we transition to a new food stage we are likely to hit a stall. (I hit mine right after the transition to stage 2 foods, sounds like that's what you experienced too.) So keep up with your eating plan, drink lots of fluids to help push the fat out, and try to increase your walking by a minimum of 10 minutes each week for the first 8 weeks. Then add additional exercise when your doc clears you.

Glad to hear that you're doing well. My "pipes" can't make up their mind just yet, but I'll be glad when they do...lol Wow, you progressed to eggs pretty quickly compared to what I was allowed. I know what you mean about the water, it's tough to get it all in. My doc says that for the first month he's more concerned with me getting all my fluids in rather than trying to eat actual food, so the past couple of days I've worried less about food and more about liquid because I know I need more fluids. My skin and lips have been dry and I never really had that problem before. As long as your not doing anything physically strenuous, your business trip shouldn't pose much of a problem. Be sure to let us know how it goes! Best of Luck

I had surgery on 12/27 and have lost 15 lbs as of today. I'm sure it will start to slow down any day now. I try to increase my exercise little by little each day to hopefully help with it.

Topic: Protein question
Ok so today is the first day on full liquids which means my first day post surgery that I am using the Protein powder. I was wanting something warm this afternoon and went through my Barix recipes and settled on Hot Chocolate. My stomach has been feeling a little funny since I drank it What gives? Was it the hot chocolate (1% milk) or the protein. I layed down with a heating pad on my belly for a bit and it helped ... but would love to avoid it again if I can LOL Thoughts? Suggestions? All comments would be welcome!

After surgery do you feel the port and band inside of you? Does the hurt go away if you do what you are suppose to?

Hey all - I'm also a December 17th "baby" I have been a bit depressed - I have PMS, I also caught the flu from my little guy so I am unsure what exactly it is related to however I have been laying in bed a lot - sleeping during the day etc. I am hoping that it is just that flu although I am concerned I am blue from not having food to turn to. I am taking it with a grain of salt though and just trying to be gentle with myself. This was HUGE for me and giving up food (they way I knew it) is HUGE for me. I think it will take me some getting used to. I stalled also - at least a week, maybe more. I lost 1 lb today so I am hopeful I am going to start moving again. It is so reminiscent of my pre surgery diet days and I want those days behind me. I did have the trots before too but now I have had to take fiber and am using suppositories to get 'going' anyone else having that?

I'm one week today, and just had my JP drain removed a few hours ago. I'm ok. I'm down 20 pounds of probably all water. I'm done with the major gas, and my pipes seem to be working as they should. I somtimes feel a little sick to my stomach. I've had egg beaters for b-fast the past two mornings, and it's doing well. I'm not totally getting all of my water but pretty close. That's about it. i haven't really had any emotional side effects. I'm going on a business trip starting sunday and lasting through the 18th, and eating worries me, but I'm bringing some stuff with me. My doc is not pleased about it, but it's training, so basically sitting in a chair and listening most of the day. It may be more relaxing than home, since there won't be kids, dogs, or husbands
