Thanks to both of you for the heads up.  I find it funny that my privacy is clearly violated with the post in question, it was remedied by the OH administrator as a violation of OH's Terms of Service (http://www.obesityhelp.com/content/terms-of-service.html) and somehow I turned out to be the ass that was blocked.  Can someone explain that to me?  Actually, don't try.  You might hurt yourself.  :)

Who knows in a few years maybe Alberta will change their minds lol....... they use to not offer the Sleeve and now its probably done in the same amount if not more than the RNY...... and the band that was so popular is almost obsolete

Topic: RE: How to decide Banding vs. Bypass? (long)

Agreed, on the banding problems, etc.  This site has information on the right hand side panels, under each type of surgery, as to the pros and cons of each; best to read up on them.....

I mentioned the gherelin hormone in the stomach and how the roux en y patient can experience hunger as the remnant stomach which has the gherelin hormone in it, is not removed.  That's not to say it's 'written in stone' that everyone with an roux en y will get hungry later; we all know we react differently to different things.  But, that being said, most the gherelin is in that remnant and chances are you will experience more hunger later with a roux en y than a VSG........  So read about each surgery type and discuss them with your physician.  I would not go to a doctor that does banding and discuss the pros and cons of a band......no matter what, there business is banding so they will steer you in that direction.......

I tell you, if I had seen that option when I had surgery, I would have pushed for it.  I love my roux-en-y, but that remnant stomach still puts out gherelin, and after about a year and a half, it starts kicking in a bit more and you do get hungrier.  With the duodenal switch my understanding is they remove the remnant stomach AND you get the sleeve, more or less, so seems to me the best of both worlds....  IMHO but I could be wrong on this.  Would love to have the remnant stomach removed now... Doing well, lost 120, gained 10 back, but some of that is lack of working/working out.  Grazing more as I am home more.  Need a schedule away from the house and I should be good.  It is definitely harder to lose the weight after a few years, so take advantage of that honeymoon period of 1 - 1.5 years and lose everything you can during that time.  Don't experiment with things like sugar to see if you can tolerate it.....just don't do it so you lose the most you can now.   I have about 20 lbs to reach my official 'normal' weight on graphs, so still doing really well.  Have lost ALL the expected weight plus more, but not at graphs normal ranges by a few pounds......

And  BTW.....these are around 100 cals, 0 sugars, 0 fats and 20-25 proteins per serving.  So they are far superior to Ensure, Boost, etc.  We were taught a 5-5-5 rule......good to follow...... don't eat it if a serving has more than 5 grams fat,  5 grams sugar but eat it if the proteins are over 5 grams per serving.  A good rule of thumb when shopping!!!!!  And keep the carbs per serving low as well...the higher the 'bad' carbs - white processed flour, etc., the more you will end up craving sugars.............  Most people need to eat about 100 - 150 grams protein per day, and carbs should be low.  Even whole grain breads, etc., should not be consumed much as they are still carbs.  Go for good carbs in veggies, etc. and you will lose your weight a lot faster than including grains, brown rice, etc.  Besides, your stomach will be a lot smaller (roux en y), or you won't get hunger pangs (sleeve), so you can easily do without them.  Don't start on them and you won't miss them!!!!  I still limit my carbs and very rarely have bread, haven't had a potato in years, nor rice.  Use quinoa, lentils, etc if I must....

Your taste can change drastically from pre- to post op, so don't go buying a bunch of stuff in preparation.  It is really strange that what you might have liked before tastes awful, or you have absolutely no desire for, after surgery.  Example....I have drank my coffee black for over 30 years...now can't stand it that way and must have cream in it.  Go figure.......

And you can 'taste test' samples in the store of any type you wish...at least here in Victoria, so I assume all Popeye's are the same!  Best place to go as the varieties are endless!!!!!

Let me know what you finally buy; I am always curious!

The short answer - it will hurt, and possibly make you throw up.

Longer - it will fill your sleeve quickly, causing it to cramp up or reject what you've sent down. This can be useful if you've eaten a bit too much and would like to get rid of the last bite or 2, but better is to learn to control portions and drink slower.

the echo of my "hello" to KA revered back to me here . . laughs.

I guess you and I have the only thing to say here . .

How are you Kelly?

Question: Why is it that you are not allowed to swallow large amounts of water at one time. Now common sense tells me why but I have to ask . I am a camel when it comes to consuming water ( pretty much all I drink )

I started sipping once I booked by surgery but no where does any one talk about the sipping issue. I hear people talk about having a hard time getting all their liquids in but . . . Nothing about the damn sipping ~chuckles ~

Get back to me when you can

Talk soon
