Will do, Lori!! I called to double check and they've finally entered me into the system. Now for the modules! They said the waiting list is currently between five and six months (sooner than I was expecting!). I am SO stoked!
RH,
I spoke with the bariatric nurse at the WW clinic in Calgary. I was told: Being that I am having the surgery outside of the Country I would not be allowed to be part of the on going classes. I was sad and wrote back asking if it was because I was going to another country or because I was paying for the surgery. Would it apply if I were having surgery in T.O. . Did that make a difference I asked.
She reiterated that if you get the surgery through another means that the health system then your on your own. No support with them anyway.
I decided that a support group was the way for me to go then. I chat with people here. I also have 3 ladies that I speak with by email and will be meeting this week for coffee. They will be my support group and help me along my way.
Good luck

Melanie,
stay on top of the doctors and the WW program coordinator. "Squeaky wheel" gets the grease. All they can tell you is they'll call you when its time to start the program. . Be a bit aggressive.

Loves reading your post !! yes, we have this ****ty system that does not work for us. The morbidly obese folks are still seen as an abuse to the health care system. What crap. It is a DISEASE !!!
When the government start reading their own statistics ( which they print ) nothing will change !
I am sorry to hear that you are one of the many many folks that feels the knife of disappointment. When I decided to take action I truly believed that the care system would help me. I had spent years trying with all of me to help myself , but to no avail ~ sighs ~ I am 175 pounds over weight .
Stay positive and come here and rant with me. ( chuckles ) Its always good to find like minded bitter people like me :)
Lori
Kee,
Great advice. I also needed to hear your words. I need to always go back to what was working for me. I get caught up in trying to take so much info in that I forget my core values of weight loss.
Thanks
Lori
Waves hello to Michelle,
I am from Calgary but like You I was devastated every time I walked into either my dietician or psychologist appointment with the great hope that this appointment would be the one where I got the good news. Nope, so once again I would cry my eye's out on the way home . feeling so many emotions.
Like others here I decided that if by Aug of this year I had not heard from the program with a date I would look else where. Through my research I determined that I would be overpaying for surgery here in Canada ( The lap band was the only surgery that I could find here in Canada ) and I wanted the sleeve.
Thank goodness for sites and forums like this because it directed me to surgeons in Mx.
I am now booked for sleeve surgery on Nov 7 of this year.
My older sister who lives in Calgary stated that from the time her referral went out to the time of her surgery it was 3 year and 7 months of a wait.
Not sure about RD, the girls from Edmonton will have better answers for you.
Michelle, don't give up !! You are not alone. Talk here, keep yourself busy with doing as much research as possible. It will work for you.

Hi Jan,
OMG I am so glad you posted. A friend of mine who does body building informed me that "Popeye's" does the buy back policy.I was actually going to check there when I went shopping this week. I love hearing some one else " recommend" a place or certain product. For any one else looking , Popeye's in just North of Chinook Center.
Like many others I have spoken with they try a product , hate it and now are stuck with it. Thank you for the wonderful news!!

Don' t give up just yet it is worth the wait ! I was referred in Feb 2012 and I had my first appointment on Oct 28 2012 and I was just sleeved this past Thursday (I just left the hospital yesterday). It is a long process but worth the wait.
once you start losing weight you completing dedicate yourself to losing the required weight they want.
When I got my surgery date they told me the surgery floor are starting to release more spots for surgery so keep doing what you are doing and it will go by fast . I know you are frustrated but it will happen sooner than you think :) Good luck in your journey :)

hi everyone, I am having surgery with Dr. Christou in Montreal on Nov 26.13.
Have not decided whether it will be the RNY bypass or the sleeve. I am interested in finding
a support group in the Edmonton or St Albert area for both before and after surgery.
Would the weight wise program offer anything or would I be exempt since I paid for the surgery myself.
Any and all replies would be greatly appreciated.
