OHAB Members: As many of you know, the Edmonton Bariatric Support Group (EBSG) has been working constantly to become recognized with the Weight Wise Clinic within Alberta Health Services for a number of years. We have been in contact with a representative and are moving forward in hopes that this collaboration will come to fruition. AHS has asked that I distribute the attached survey to help them determine what our post-surgical support requirements are. Ideally, the results of this survey will show what is needed and that we can help fill those gaps. Please take a moment to fill out this survey. Thanks!

It totally makes sense to me. I am pretty sure that if my carb intake was lower, I would lose more weight. I have let certain refined carbs slip back in and I believe it's the reason that my weight loss has stopped. Again, we need carbs, but better to get them from the correct sources rather than the refined stuff.
My approach has been similar to many of the vets who are patients of Dr Cirangle in California. Do you use MyFitnessPal? If so you're welcome to friend me there and look at my food diary. I'm Spencerella56. I chose this very low carb low cal high protein food plan because I see the merits of getting through the weight loss phase as quickly as possible ( when I have most restriction, least hunger etc) and getting on with the rest of my life in maintenance.
While I understand and respect Kelly's thoughts on the low carb approach, the flip side is that I see countless numbers of people on these boards who can't stay in weight loss mode indefinitely and end up sliding into maintenance level calories and choices before they've lost all the weight. It is extremely difficult to dial back then and they never reach ideal weight. That's not important for everyone but it is for me personally.
So very low carb is a different approach than most Alberta patients use, but it's meant to take you to 100% EWL as soon as possible. I've also seen lots of people accomplish that with higher carb and higher cal approaches but for me, this one made complete sense and it was one I was comfortable with.
Granted this is a philosophical difference where there is really no right or wrong, and there are many ways to do this. But since you asked , I thought I'd put it out there

I don't know how you only eat 20 to 30 grams of carbs a day....I tried to cut back and 50 was the lowest I could go.
You did it once...you can do it again....keep faith in you....You have a rough time and you are mature enough to see it and admit it.....
Good luck :)
I've carb counted from the beginning and it's worked well for me in terms of weight loss and appetite control. I usually eat between 20 and 30 grams of carbs per day. My only real exception to that is if I have a Quest bar when I'm on the go. In that case, I count and record every carb, but I do aim for very low carbs most days. When I get to maintenance, I plan to keep my carbs below 100 grams daily.

I need someone to kick me in the butt and help me get back on track.
I'm not gaining weight but I'm not losing either. I have seemed to have loss my motivation and am eating things that I shouldn't be.
I'm finding more and more junky foods are slipping into my diet and since I'm no longer allowed popcorn in my diet I am finding it hard finding something to replace it. Doritos and chocolate have become my slider foods and I'm having them at least 2 times a week. I being honest here I'm struggling and I'm scared to death. I have worked too hard to get to this point.
I will be 3 years out in September so it's not like I don't know the difference but it seems like I have gotten bored with trying to lose those dreaded last 10 pounds and have now frustrated myself to the point where I hate planning meals. I even skip meals and eat a piece of fruit to make life easier. I can now eat 1200+ calories a day and that's scary too.
Anyway if anyone has been in my shoes can you please share how you got yourself back on track. I need to get my motivation back and remain a success.
Kee.
