Have you completed all the classes already? From the time I completed the classes to when I got the call for my meet up with the nurse and psychologist (indicating I was approved for surgery) was about 8 months. After that meeting it was about 3 months until I had my surgery.

I believe it can be as little as 2 months (my situation) or as long as 6 months.

Where you meeting the surgeon at?? I know for me i met him at Peter Lougheed and that's when you sign your consent for surgery. I seen the surgeon 2 times total. Once at old children where he told me I was approved then again in his clinic. From the time I sign consent it was 2 weeks then i got the call with my surgery date. But then again i did all classes, bloodwork and seen internal med doc that cleared me for surgery before the second meeting with surgeon. No medical issues with me and not on any meds. Hope this help alittle.
Another update, wish I could have better news but I have had a year from Hell! Wish I hadn't done the rnygb now, wish I had went for just the intestinal part of it and NOT the stomach portion! DO not do that! As a diabetic I cannot get enough nutrition in now to keep healthy. I now have been diagnosed with Dysautonomia too, with its set of symptoms which I have pretty much all of them! The RNY helped me for quite awhile but now I am getting more and more brittle with the diabetes- I can swing from being very high to very low in a matter of an hr! I have lost weight to a point now where if I continue to loose I will be in danger of starvation- weigh 130lbs. If you are getting it for diabetes alone and not obese- really get lots of research and talk to lots of pts and other docs before doing it. Wish I would have stuck to my guns and insisted on the surgery I wanted- got talked into something different by the surgeon. He actually told me he was going to leave my stomach pouch LARGER than normal for a rny, and even on the table before putting me out, I asked him again if that was the plan- he said "yes if he could". Found out months later, he didn't even try to do that and I have the same size as anyone else- which is a BIG problem for me. I cannot get enough nutrition in now! If you have a BMI of 30 or less really insist on knowing what you are getting BEFORE doing it!
I would have never done it!
Surgeon office called i'm booked for surgery first week of March. Going to be a good year. Process wasn't as long as people say it was. Total time was 1 year from the time I started the program. Then again I have been working out and eating right for awhile now. I even lost over 100 pounds on my own but since I had my second child weight hasn't been able to come off as easily. Still go to gym and eat proper but weight stays the same. I have no medical issuses and on no meds so that might factor into it too.

I recently purchased the Fitbit One and love it! It clips to your bra strap or pants. (I prefer the bra as it wont get lost) and it logs my steps, elevated climbs, calories burned and miles walked. It will sync all your data to either your computer or a free app on your cell phone.
Good luck!

How long have people waited for the surgery date when they moved onto the surgeons waitlist? I meet with the psychologist on Jan 19 and then the surgeon at the end of the month? I know you go on the AHS waitlist first and then you move to the surgeons waitlist, just curious how long that wait usually takes.
Any info will be helpful. I am just so close I can smell it ;-)
Hi,
I'd be interested in getting together for coffee. I live in NW Calgary too.
I was sleeved in Medicine Hat on Oct 6/14. I had a very rough start but am doing better now.
Karen
hello,
i am currently on the waitlist for wls in calgary. i have been on it since early june 2014. i have an intake meeting coming up on dec 29 and i was wondering if anyone out there can give me a guesstimate of how quickly surgery happens after this appt.
i have not lost weight and am really struggling. when i asked my dietician about the 10% weight loss, she said i just had to complete the 3 week pre-op liquid protein diet. is this true for calgary clinic?
i am so excited and nervous at same time.
i apprecaite any advice or answers.
have a safe holiday season
