I'm been in the Calgary weight management program less then a year (march2015) would be a year. I've been approved for surgery, seen the surgeon once. Been to internal medicine doc and he cleared everything. Done all the classes. See the surgeon for the second time in 2 weeks to tell him which surgery I want. They did tell me I could learn of my surgery date at this appointment. But who knows??? I'm happy I went through the program you do learn alot and they have people that know their stuff to help you out. I'll post what I find out at the next appointment.
I'm planning on getting the sleeve. I like all the things I've read about it. My nurse at my first appointment thought I was a perfect candidate so I'm just waiting for a call to get booked in to talk to the surgeon. I'm loving the clinic so far. I really like the staff there.

Hi Tara.
I've had WLS here in Calgary and am still in the process of losing weight. I still have a L O N G ways to go but am still working on it slowly but surely. :) That's very exciting that you are going to the Red Deer clinic. I have heard wonderful things about the physicians there. What procedure are you planning on having done?
I'm in calgary. And currently going to the red deer clinic planning on surgery. I also live in the NW. What are you thinking about surgery? Or just fighting the normal fight?

I'd love to get together with anyone from Calgary who has had surgery, is waiting for surgery, is considering surgery or is just struggling like the rest of us to lose weight.
I'm in NW Calgary and would love to meet up with anyone who might be interested.
Good to know :)
Not sure how quickly things move along in Calgary.
I'm hoping for a quick surgery date because I have a 4.3cm cyst on my ovary that they are taking care of during the VSG and it is aching. Don't want it to burst before they do the surgery :(
Crossing my fingers for a quick surgery date :)
Ahhh so I could get two months notice or one week if I can get a wait list spot. Good to know! Good thing I got a super flexible work schedule and tons of sick time saved up hahaha

The minimum weight is a bmi of 35 with two comorbidities. So sleep apnea, high blood pressure, depression, diabities, osteoarthritis, there's probably more I can't remember or A bmi of 40 or higher with none.
I told my family about it before I went to see my doctor. I was all set to convince him to refer me. But he was sooo on board he's had two other patients that had the sleeve this year from red deer and he loves the clinic! I was referred July 24th. Then I emailed the study and they called me in for my first meeting with them August 25th. They booked me in for my orientation October 7th with my first appointment November 4th. The study really helped get the ball rolling I've heard if you're just a regular referral it can be 5 to 6 months for orientation
my my husband is super supportive and so is my entire family. They know what I've tried and how hard I've worked with little to no movement on the scale. Sometime it just doesn't work. I don't think people who see me walking down the street would guess I've walked two half marathons and will bike 90km a day in the summer. I'm probably more fit then most 130lb women. But man I'd like to bike a hill without having to stop and puke at the top ;)

At Red Deer I got approved on Dec. 16th and I had surgery on April 9th. I had issues with the fact my ECG results got lost and I didn't get a date when others got theirs. I however had my name on the wait list and I got a call one week before my actual surgery date. Interestingly enough, my surgery was before others who were given their actual dates.
Awsome, thanks for the info! I will defiantly look into it! What was the waiting time from doctor referral to meeting the nurse?
was your family or spouse supportive of your desicions? I haven't told any of my family yet about this and alittle nervous to!
Also nervous to be turned away! I'm right at the minimum weight to be accepted!
